With 18 years of hands-on experience in various operational capacities within
Sasol, in integrated chemicals and energy production, I bring a wealth of expertise in
refining production and process control. Throughout my tenure, I have honed my skills
as a Process Artisan, specializing in DCS Control Room Operations, particularly in the
Distillate Hydrotreating Unit (DHT), which it's primary purpose is producing diesel.
In my role within the Energy Operations and Technology Business Unit, I have played
integral roles in ensuring the safe and efficient production of diesel, Operating within the Distillate Hydrotreating Unit (DHT), I've mastered the intricacies of its three main
sections: the Reaction section, Fractionation section, and Hydrogen compression system,
each vital in achieving our production goals.
As a Panel Operator, my responsibilities encompass continuous monitoring and control
of process performance using advanced distributed control systems. I meticulously
review laboratory sample results, analyze trends, and implement necessary adjustments
to optimize production efficiency. From managing start-ups and shutdowns to swiftly
addressing emergencies, I am adept at maintaining operational integrity under varying
conditions.
In addition to my role as a Panel Operator, I excel as a Field Operator, where I am
entrusted with crucial tasks such as equipment start-ups, inspections, and product line
management. My commitment to safety is unwavering, demonstrated through proactive
hazard identification, equipment defect reporting, and adherence to stringent safety
protocols.
Moreover, my experience extends to leadership roles, having served as an Acting Shift
Group Leader, where I facilitated shift meetings, coordinated permit issuance, and

turnaround shutdown periods.

  • Analyze and inspect operating units such as towers to check operation and improve efficiency.

  • Monitor product quality continuously and make necessary adjustments on the panel to keep product within the specification
  • Maintain desired production rates and yields of the unit and adhere to OWAP (Operate within Agreed limits)
  • Load defect notifications on SAP system and report them to the supervisor ensure field operators sign start-up checklist before starting any equipment on the unit to avoid mistakes
  • Perform BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) when there’s work taking place on the unit
  • Ensure IMS inspection is done accordingly
  • Follow standard operation procedures (Standard Operating Procedures) and adhere to management of change (Management of Change's)
  • Operate the unit in the control room panel and on the field if there’s shortage of people on both plants
  • Monitored compliance with plant procedures, safety and sanitation protocols as well as government regulation.
  • Comply to SHE requirements (protect the environment by avoiding flaring a lot, spillages and etc)
  • Perform job observations on field operators (critical task observations)
  • Perform RCA and Hazard Identification
  • Train junior operators and declare them competent to perform task according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Reduce production downtime through quick problem-solving and rapid equipment repairs, eliminating excessive use of outside repair vendors and overtime
