Garden-based Environmental Education Programmes

● Coordinating or facilitating of environmental education at the education centre on biodiversity at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens to school kids, tertiary students and community members. Teaching the visitors about the importance of preserving our biodiversity, ecosystem and all about the major roles the environment plays for us as humans to adapt and survive.

● This Programme targets learners (Gr R- 12) and tertiary students. The programmes are activity-based and learner-cantered, reflecting the outcomes of the National Curriculum Statement, across all learning areas. The emphasis is on educating the learners about biodiversity and education for sustainable living and how dependent people are on using plants in everyday life. The aim is to promote harmonious relationships between all learners, education officers and community members’ at large and making learning easy and fun for learners.

● The programme targeted councillors, NGOs NPOs, National and Provincial, Local municipalities and also working with the Department of Environmental Affairs in conducting and initiating green initiatives and awareness campaigns on environmental education.

Stakeholders

● I worked hand in hand with the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in the planning of greening initiatives, fundraising. SANBI's role with respect to biodiversity policy is to give support to the stakeholder which is the National Department of Environmental Affairs.
