Work History

Community Service Speech-Language Therapist

Eastern Cape Department of Health
01.2025 - Current
  • As the sole Speech-Language Therapist at a district hospital, I independently manage the delivery of comprehensive services across departments, including general wards (male and female), maternity, paediatric, and outpatient clinics. I work with both paediatric and adult populations, providing assessment and intervention for a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Paediatric cases include children with autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delays, low birth weight, and premature infants with feeding difficulties.
  • Adult caseload consists mainly of patients with stroke-related conditions such as aphasia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, and dysphagia.
  • I also conduct rural outreach visits, ensuring continued service access for underserved communities.
  • Responsible for all administrative functions, including appointment scheduling, patient records, report writing, monthly statistics, and resource procurement within hospital budget constraints.
  • This role requires strong clinical judgement, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently in a resource-limited setting while contributing meaningfully to patient outcomes.
