Working within the retail industry taught me 5 important skills teamwork, problem-solving, communication, organization, and customer service.
I learned to communicate well with customers, colleagues, and managers in a clear and concise way as well as maintaining a positive attitude while dealing with customers. I gained the ability to keep track of sales, manage inventory, and keep the store clean and organized. I learned to think creatively, handling situations, and coming up with solutions independently and most importantly providing team support to my colleagues.
I enrolled as a vacation work student for five days completing 40 hours of labour in Vlaakland, Paarl, Western Cape. It was a great first experience, the community building project was hosted by Lawula Projects and facilitated by BlueMoon Projects on behalf of the Department as part fulfilment of the practical training requirements for the BSc (Construction Studies) degree
