• During this year at Citrusdal Hospital, there was opportunity, as the sole doctor on the floor for majority of the day, to oversee general wards, labour ward, casualties and out patient department. Daily ward rounds, seeing 30/+ patients, casualties and OPD, seeing 15-20 patients daily. This taught me valuable communications skills, albeit with staff and colleagues or during discussion to higher centres and specialties for referral.
• During this time I was exposed to and become familiar with a variety of common acute and chronic conditions, such as polytrauma, miscarriages, DKA, hypovolemic shock, SAM, acute gastroenetritis, and more.
• I was able to become familiar with various in and outpatient procedures, such as providing general and spinal anaesthesia during cesarean sections, intubations, neonatal resuscitations, , intercostal drains, minor surgical procedures such as, biopsies, incision and drainage, wedge resections, reductions and cast manipulations, pleural and ascitic taps.
• Involved in monthly outreach speciality clinics, rounds, surgeries and morbidity and mortality meetings.

During my time as an intern medical officer at Charlotte Maxeke, had the opportunity, due to natural disaster, to be exposed to many other institutions, namely, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Edenvale Hospital and Helen Joseph hospital.

During this time I was exposed to all major medical specialities, including:

• Internal medicine, specifically infectious diseases, nephrology and endocrinology.
• General surgery, including, trauma surgery, and vascular surgery.
• Pediatrics, including 2 months in the neonatal high care unit.
• Obstetrics and Gynecology.
• Family medicine.
• Orthopedic surgery, specifically trauma and spines unit.
• Anesthesiology.
• Psychiatry.
