I am an Archaeologist, Heritage consultant and geographer. I have a degree in archaeology and geography from Wits University and an Honours degree from the University of Pretoria in archaeology, with a focus on geoarchaeology. My specialization and interests include a broad spectrum of sub-disciplines within both archaeology, anthropology and geography. As a result of my keen interest in these subjects, I have been exposed to and worked with different kinds of heritage. Exposure to these disciplines has also allowed me access to GIS and Remote sensing as well various databases, which I have worked on since my student days. My passion is for preservation, conservation and sustainability of heritage resources while supporting growth and expansion. Databases form an important part in heritage conservation as they are used to manage heritage data.
Most recently I have been employed by the Iziko South African Museums, working on the physical verification of their Paleontology specimen collection using Microsoft excel to capture the information. We further verified these on their database (Specify) to update and capture new entries. My experience working on this collection, with over a hundred thousand specimens, I believe, offers an added advantage when it comes to data capturing for other databases as well.
