From a very young age, I had aspirations of becoming an engineer, because I wanted to build machines that did not require direct human energy inputs to operate. I achieved this for the first time a few weeks later, designing hydraulic press machine which removes bearings in motor vehicle shafts; it wasn't a roaring success, but the fact that it wasn't perfect only increased my desire to learn more about
engineering. In 2000-2001 I've received a Technikon Pretoria Award, National Highest Average while in Lephalale FET College, I've obtained a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering [Lephalale FET College, 2005] Government Certificate of Competency Electrical Engineers Mines & Works [Department of Minerals Resources & Energy 2012]. To seek and maintain full-time position that offers professional challenges utilizing interpersonal skills, excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
Plant Maintenance
Ensure a minimum of 85% plant availability by:
Managing and setting targets for GES & Maintenance Supervisors. Conduct daily maintenance feedback meetings, covering feedback on past day’s activities. Auditing & Preventative Maintenance schedules to comply with specific set standards. Optimise plant availability by identifying system constraints and provide suitable proposals of improving the process. Address process problems with the relevant Head of Department by investigating various alternatives to alleviate the specific problem. Compile capital project proposals as per budget requirements. Manage each capital project from conception to turn-key with available technical manuals, maintenance, schedules, operational procedures and spares.
Manage the maintenance work order system:
Conduct weekly review of work order status and manage completion thereof.
Identifying critical equipment spares and ensure that enough quantities are available on mine via the stores system. Compile and manage the Major Maintenance plan for each budget year in consultation with the General Manager, Finance Manager, Engineering Manager. Compile and manage the Capex plan for each budget year in consultation with the General Manager, Finance Manager and Engineering Managers. Implement Condition Based Monitoring on relevant critical equipment. Manage the overall plant/machinery shutdown plan for each bi-monthly and annual. Standardise equipment throughout the mine to a reasonable accepted level.
Maintenance breakdowns:
Review downtime information and address recurring problems by conducting root
cause analyses with Maintenance Teams, leading to identification of main causes of
breakdowns. Verify close-out of these main causes. Review information and address recurring problems by implementing corrective action measures. Take Management control of all maintenance breakdowns where the duration is estimated to be more than 3 hours or an advanced Engineering solution is required to fix the breakdown.
Safety & Health, Environmental and Legal Requirements
Ensure that performance of work which the safety of persons depends on, is
performed under the direct supervision of a competent person appointed in writing
by the manager. Ensure health and safety functions required of the employer are carried out in terms of Regulation 2.13.1 of MHSA, including all applicable mandatory COP's, risk assessment programmes, occupational hygiene programmes and any other programmes required to ensure effective health and safety management for the operations. Ensure that all statutory requirements are met in terms of the proper operation, running and maintenance of machinery at the mine and as
required. Ensure a full implementation and compliance to all Codes of
Practices, the MHSA, Act. managerial instructions policies, procedures currently in force on the mine. Take note of all exemptions and permissions granted by the DMR.
Ensure all Environmental legal requirements are met as per the legal registers.
Management of Personnel
Lead, develop and motivate team towards achieving operational objectives. Promote continuous improvement and innovative thinking. Ensure compliance with disciplinary code. Control leaves and overtime for staff. Ensure structured review of performance appraisals. Interview candidates for vacant positions. Establish communications & good interpersonal relationships with all personnel through staff meetings with proper minutes being kept. Maintain good relationships with the Organised Labour (representatives and Union officials) and DMR. Where necessary motivate, appreciate good quality work performance, supply training facilities, opportunities for all personnel and know their future aspirations.
Budgets, Stock Control and Critical Spares
Ensure that spares are available at short notice for all major machines and equipment (e.g. winders, pumps, fans, compressors, pump columns, conveyor belts, emergency
generating sets, etc.) Evaluate spares stock levels (in consultation with Engineering Overseers, Engineering Foreman and Logistics Manager) on an on-going basis to balance Plant availability and stockholding capital. Audit stockholding quantities on a monthly basis. Ensure that all suppliers are evaluated according to all relevant purchasing procedures. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure best
possible price, quality and after sales service. Ensure the implementation and adherence to Company purchasing procedures.
