  • Track & monitor Sasol's Petrol and Diesel value chain balances and being responsible for custody transfer metering maintenance.
  • Interpretations of LP model runs and providing inputs to planning & marketing processes.
  • Responsible for integrating clean fuels process synthesis models into production accounting environment
  • Monitoring of specific team goals-oriented dashboards that tracks good health of the SF model and mass balancing processes.
  • Generates inputs for the financial unit cost models (UCM).

Process Engineer (Engineering & Planning)

SASOL LTD (PTY)
04.2007 - 01.2011
  • Objective: Perform accurate refinery mass balances, track tonnages and do deviation analysis report.
  • Management and supervision of technicians to achieve accurate material reconciliation of the Sasol Secunda Site plant, attainment of good month end dashboard (Certificate of Volumes, meters out of tolerance, reconciled vs. raw metering deviations, etc.
  • Responsibilities involve:
  • - Lead the mass balance team for the entire Sasol Secunda Site
  • - Evaluation of refinery mass balances and ensuring good data integrity
  • - Data reconciliation conducted using Sigmafine 4 and reconciled globally with the rest of Secunda site data (e.g. gas production, gas circuit, liquid/fuel business & solvents)
  • - Informing production of meters out of tolerance so that they can be calibrated and/or zero checked, this would ensure good quality of flow measurement
  • - Performing deviation analysis that measure refinery production performance against planning and advice production of deviations so as to incorporate these when doing short term planning
  • - Interpretation of LP models
  • - Issuing of certificate of volumes (COV’s) that are accurate to Synfuels clients

Engineer (Minerals Processing Division)

MINTEK
Randburg
01.2003 - 03.2006
  • Objective: Management and supervision of metallurgical research projects involving optical sorting, the dense media separation, flotation and other mini-mineral processing projects.
  • Anglo Platinum P2 - Supervision and management of the project aimed at rejecting waste of selected Anglo Platinum ores using the dense media separation technique. This project received praises from Anglo Platinum, findings thereof were going to be used for developing/designing a plant. A detailed report entailing simulation models was also issued out.
  • African Rainbow Minerals (care of Teal) - Supervision and management of the project aimed at designing the process flowsheet for treatment of the competent malachite rich ores obtained from DRC (Lupoto & Kasonta). This project was jointly supervised by Mintek representatives & government consultants.
  • Coal Flotation (CVRD) - Supervision and management of the project aimed at determining the floatability character of coal (Moatize, Mozambique). A detailed technical report was issued out.
  • Anglo Platinum P1 – Supervision and management of the project aimed at rejecting waste of selected Anglo Platinum ores using the dense media separation technique. A detailed report entailing simulation models was issued out.
  • Platinum Research Venture – supervision and management of a project aimed at investigating the effect of crushing mechanisms to optical sorting in comparison to minerals processing jig using selected Anglo Platinum ore. Although carried out by Mintek, this was a joint venture between Anglo and Mintek, a report detailing the influence of crushability to optical sorting when compared to the jig was issued out.
  • De Beers – Executed and supervised De Beers projects involving heavy liquid separation and supplied De Beers with technical report.
  • Others Projects: Have also been involved in other small projects regarding base and industrial minerals.

Engineer in Training (Minerals Processing Division)

MINTEK
01.2002 - 01.2003
  • Objective: Gain exposure in different metallurgical processes, run pilot plant shifts efficiently, ensure collection of quality data and supervision of testwork campaigns in general.
  • Cluff Platinum – Sampling on the rougher flotation banks and supervision of the sample preparation.
  • Crocodile River – Assistant Shift Leader during the pilot flotation plant campaigns.
  • Impala Platinum – Laboratory testwork, shift leader during pilot flotation plant campaign and assist in compiling technical report writing.
  • Dummies guide – Preparation of a training manual/guide for new engineers entering the working environment. Preparation of literature survey on gravity separation technologies.
  • Optical Sorting – Practical training on optical sorting technology.
  • Jigging (MDS) – Practical training on the operation of a jig (mineral density separator).
  • Supervision/mentoring of technikon students and new engineers.

Vacation Student (Measurement and Control)

Mintek
Randburg
01.1999 - 01.2000
  • Investigate the effect of abrasion and breakage in mills performance. The project involved compilation of a literature survey, milling testwork, simulations, data analysis, presentation done and report compiled.
  • Development of a device that monitors the concentration of acid in carbon in pulp processes (CIP’s). The project involved data collection and interpretation, installations of CIP's in different plants, trips to Anglo plants for installation of new improved CIP instruments.

Vacation Student (SAPREF)

Sapref
Durban
12.1998 - 02.1999
  • Objective: Optimisation of water networks to fire hydrants.
  • The project involved pressure characterisation tests, use of WATNET simulation package and report writing. The project was executed well such that we receive an accolade at its completion.
  • Having been in 1st year, the project was executed exceptional well such that we (& partner) received an accolade since the results produced were viewed to could lead to breakthroughs.
