Work History

Creative Arts Educator - Prep Phase

Maris Stella School
Durban
01.2020 - Current

At Maris Stella school, I currently teach Creative Arts in the Prep Phase: Grades 4-7.

It is my passion to use the Arts (Visual Art, Drama, Music and Dance) to not only show pupils the magic in this life, but to help them find theirs! To spark Creativity, help them grow in confidence and discover their unique creative gifts.

I teach Visual Art and Drama - both theory and practical. I use Music and Dance in my lessons as extension and triggers for imagination, as well as performance.

I have written 2 plays for Maris Stella.

We made a movie in 2021 and staged a very successful production this year.

I have three extra mural classes where girls either come to Art club or Theatre craft - where we design and make props, set and costumes for our Drama department.

All set, props and costumes used in our productions have been made by the pupils - with focus on recycling. Using recycled materials. As well as upcycling, or re-purposing found or pre-loved items to make new items.

I am also in charge of the Speech and Drama festival which we facilitate through SADASA.

I have ongoing Exhibitions in the foyer of our school and have an annual display of all the work the pupils do in my lessons.
