URVI PATEL

I currently work in the Commercial Lines Pricing team. I joined as part of the Old Mutual Insure Graduate program. During my first year of work, I learnt a number of skills, including:

• Rate reviews and remodeling using Emblem, RADAR and SAS software
• Building monitoring frameworks in RADAR
• Solving premium queries raised by brokers
• VBA, SAS coding and Emblem
• Preparing a number of presentations for the monthly pricing forums
• Communicating with a technical and non-technical audience

• I spent a day at Hollard in 2016 to understand what being an actuary entails
• I spoke to various senior actuaries and observed the types of work the various actuarial roles require

I tutored Math to grade 5-12s. This helped me:

• Established communication skills
• Ability to understand students perspectives and explain accordingly
• Assisted with student enrollments which helped me gain some administrative skills.

• I am involved in various projects such as the annual Winter Warmer, walkathons and feeding schemes for people with disadvantages and children
• I also help with fundraising for the projects mentioned and for other disaster relief projects.

• Member of the Marketing Committee – I am involved in designing leaflets, banners and invitations for small and large scaled events which are hosted by the temple
• Member of the Décor Committee – This involves planning and executing themed décor for festivals at the temple

• I volunteered at CHOC, I was involved in general administration work, stock counting, feeding the kids and planning fun days for the kids.
