  • Represent community structures at large in the Parole session, and also if requested by communities of different Areas with regard to the placement of certain inmates on parole.
  • Ensure that the board takes cognisance and consistence of community concerns on the parole placement or in specific cases i.e. FP, SED, parole and Correctional Supervision.
  • Act as facilitator on reintegration of released of an inmate’s person back into the community through Community Corrections nationwide, and or to protect the interest of Community, Inmates and the State.
  • Express the viewpoint of communities during board sessions about crimes trend, stats, patterns and violations of parole.
  • Provide inputs on community structures in support of the released of inmate with conditions set to adhere.
  • Ensure the objectives and fair application of release policy and as determined by the board, and by making sure of confidentiality in terms of parole board meetings decision and documentation.
  • Facilitate the involvement of complainants in parole board meetings by inter alia utilizing community structures and stakeholders like Dept. of Justice, Home Affairs, SAPS, NGO’s and CBO’s to assist complainants with various needs i.e. Courts Warrant that are not clear with Sentence, suspended sentence, conversion of sentence or Legal matters and Deportation order.
  • Participate in Board meetings and provide inputs on decisions in line with profiles G306 and G326 and as per B6 order and or offender rehabilitation path to take informed decision-making tool from profile submitted by the chairperson of the CMC to Parole board.
  • Advise the Chairperson and Vicechair of the Board on cognisance decision on inmate’s parole consideration and strengthening out the parole conditions.
  • Invite victims of crimes to take part on parole sittings and also to advise the board on measures to set conditions for the release of inmates.
  • Attend Courts to advice about FP dates if certain inmates took the parole board to court alongside with Departmental Legal services.
  • Perform ad-hoc tusk as determined by the board and Management Areas to assist in parole session i.e. Colesburg Management Area and Upington Management Area.

  • As an independent Correctional Centre Visitor was deal with the complaints of Offenders by: Doing regular visits and Interview inmates privately in line with Sec 93 of CSA, Act No 111 of 1998 and to restore human dignity of inmates within the Centre, by making sure that the human right of inmates is upheld.
  • Advise the Officials to record the Complaints on G365. Later process complaints to Record of Consultations (ROC) and Monitoring the manner in which they have dealt with.
  • Discuss Complaints with the Head of Correctional Centre with the view to solve the matter internally.
  • Provide regular feedback to inmates on the progress made with regard to complaints raised.
  • Refer unresolved Complaints to the JICS-CV Meeting (Committee) for further resolution and complaint handling.
  • Acts as an advocacy to promote peaceful environment within the Centre between the inmates and Correctional Service Officials.
  • Helps DCS unit Managers on the report by Human Rights Commission to Parliament on how many complaints received and Attended by an ICCV.
  • Perform ad-hoc tusk assigned to by Directorate Legal Services, Inspections and Investigations, Mails referrals, VCCO, on Mandatory reports or Complaints received by JICS National Office and or Region for further complaint handling and feedback.

  • Provides registry counter services that include attending clients, handle telephonic and other enquiries received, receive and register hand delivery mails or files.
  • Render an effective filing and records management service that entails opening and close file according to record classification system.
  • Filing or storage, tracing (electronically or manually) and retrieval of document and files, complete index cards for all files.
  • Identifying disposal record, facilitate approval process to dispose records and transfer valuable records to archives.
  • Operate Office Machine in relation to the Registry functions which include frank post update, register and lock post in post bag for messenger to deliver to post office.
  • Process documents for Archival and disposal which entails sorting and packaging files or mails for archives and distribution.
  • Keep record for archived documents and compile list of documents to be archived and submit to the supervisor within the Directorate (Knowledge and Information Management).
  • Provide administration functional support to the Chief Information Office, and Assumes the Responsibility of the Messenger within the Directorate.
  • Provide records management services and maintain an updated filing system.
  • Assistance with the submission of section15 Notice for Publication by the Minister of Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in the Government Gazette.
