- Maintaining order Constables work with law enforcement to keep the peace in their assigned jurisdictions
- They are responsible for preventing and detecting crime, and maintaining public order
- Enforcing the law Constables have the legal authority to pull over vehicles, make arrests, and carry a firearm
- They can make arrests for misdemeanors and some low-level felonies
- Serving legal documents Constables serve legal documents, such as subpoenas and citations, as required by the local civil court system
- They may also help evict tenants who have not paid rent
- Supporting victims and witnesses Constables are responsible for building relationships and providing support to victims and witnesses
- Responding to calls Constables respond to calls for police service
- Conducting investigations Constables conduct preliminary and follow-up criminal and traffic investigations
- Preparing reports Constables prepare written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities
- Testifying in court Constables may be required to testify in court
