Pediatric neurology
Dear Hiring Manager I am excited to apply for the vacant physiotherapy post, as advertised. I am certain that my skills laid out on my curriculum vitae with my commitment to being a life long learner and the companies objectives make me an ideal candidate for the role. In my current position as a physiotherapy community service officer at Carletonville Hospital, working closely with a lot of patients from townships and informal settlements I have acquired essential skills on emphasising a specific patient- based approach to treatment using the ICF to accommodate patents needs and expectations on their respective impairments with their specific activity limitations, participation restrictions, environmental and social factors. Due to limited resources and modalities in the hospital, I have also learnt to be a good improvisor when it comes to treatment as you have to work with what you have and this has massively enhanced my overall problem solving skills. Primary health care comes with a lot of complex social issues which has sharpened my skills towards a holistic approach to healthcare through taking into consideration the social determinants of health. Being in a hospital where there is only two community service officers with no senior has taught me a lot in terms of documentation, further polished my already shining leadership skills and tested my ethical considerations which I believe I maintained optimal professionalism and have been ethical at all times. I am eager to bring my expertise to the institution and contribute to the success of the overall healthcare. I believe I also bring commitment and youthfulness which is vital for innovation, fresh ideas, creativity and ability to consume and apply new information. I also acknowledge the institution as the perfect environment to grow as a professional and as a man. I believe through collaboration we can both grow in terms of achieving sustainable healthcare through health education and promotion. Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this position further and explain in greater detail why I am the best fit for this role. Sincerely Sivuse Mathenjwa
This seven weeks experience helped sharpen my skills in assessing subjectively and objectively then coming up with hypothesis and importantly accurately diagnosing and managing vast neuromusculoskeletal condions.
Rehabilitating patients through pain management, use of electrotherapy modalities, manual techniques, exercise prescription, education and lifestyle adaptation in a patient specific approach.
This five week experience was speficically designed to help improve students application of knowledge for cardiopulmonary physiotherapy in an Intensive Care Unit. This experience helped sharpen my connection of information when assessing a patient from considering their past medical history, present presentation, investigations done such as x rays, blood chemistry, arterial blood gases, and manual objective assessments. The improvisation of treatment when taking into account the type of mechanical ventilation and settings, and contra indications was vital when treating ICU patients where you acquire the actual skill of weaning off and suctioning to improve patients respiratory function and step down to high care and into normallife.
This five week experience as a fourth year physiotherapy student was to help polish my skills on assesssing and treating different paediatric neurological conditions. This is a mother and child hospital where I dealt with alot of neonatal and postnatal cases gaining valuable experience in after birth complications for both mother and child and emphasising the idea of early childhood intervention to prevent life long disability for paediatrics. I dealt with alot of cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, Gullian Barre Syndrome, Hypoxic- Ischemic Encephalopathy, dystonia and other conditions.
This was a five weeks block specifically designed to improve our skills in advocating for health through Health education, health promotion, home visits, and community based rehabilitation. It also helped bring further awareness to our ethical side of health.
This 5-week experience was mainly focused on improving my skills as a cardiopulmonary physiotherapist, where I worked in surgical wards and in high care to assess and manage any respiratory conditions, with an emphasis on the holistic approach, where a patient is managed by taking into account their respiratory condition, other chronic conditions, and musculoskeletal state, setting short-term, intermediate, and long-term goals to regain the highest level of function possible.
It was my first time experiencing clinical or practical work so it was a reality check. An out patient setting but the five week duration was mainly focused on improving myu subjective and objective assessment for patients with neurological conditions, mainly CVA.
I am a healthcare practitioner - this is key as I am able to integrate all attributes of being a graduate which are resourcefulness, creativity, confidence, resilience, cultural sensitivity, integrity, accessibility and reflecting( redress)
