Simbarashe Zvoushe, BSc Hons Mechanical Engineering, Pr. Eng (ECSA), Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Factories), Kepner Tregoe – PSDM (Deloitte Consulting, Australia), MSAIMechE, Peirce Smith Converter HAZOP Lead, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) (in progress) is an accomplished, competent and professional mechanical engineer with a wide range of technical capabilities in physical asset management, maintenance, design and project management within power generation, steel-making, mining and waste water treatment environments.

A seasoned mechanical engineer with experience that spans over a period of 15 years and has overseen and managed multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams in the application of asset management elements for optimization of equipment life cycle performance. Over the years, developed solid technical competencies in the effective implementation of reliability centred maintenance (RCM) processes such as asset strategies and plans (asset tactics development), work management processes, condition monitoring techniques, defect elimination strategies, total fluids management, asset life cycle management. In addition, developed HAZOPs, codes of practices for mining operations, standard operating procedures and work instructions, applied advanced root cause analysis techniques such as KT-PDSM, Causal Tree Analysis, Ishikawa Fishbone Analysis for solving complex equipment failures and plant problems in iron and steel making, power generation, mining and platinum smelting environments and implementation of solutions resulted in cumulative cost savings of over ZAR190 million.

• 2009: Increased the boiler plant availability factor from 75 to 85% through systematic application of reliability centred maintenance strategies, that is, optimizing reactive, preventive and condition-based philosophies.
• 2010: Designed a 20-ton piston suspension system to hold in position a 20-ton floating piston for Blast Furnace gas holder and reduced the mean time to repair the gas holder by approximately 10%.
• 2012: Redesigned compressed air system for Bar Rod Mill Plant to match its upgraded throughput of 200 000 tons per annum of finished steel products (BS4449 Gr 460).
• 2019: Developed the Boiler Penthouse Clean Conditions Procedure for prevention of Short-Term Overheating Failure Mechanism due to foreign materials in tubing on post maintenance plant start-ups resulting in annual maintenance and revenue loss savings of ZAR 179 million.
• 2019: Led the Short-Term Overheating (STO) task team in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on boiler plant failures and developed preventative actions to avoid repeat failures. This is managed and reviewed through regular presentations in task team work groups and Boiler Tube Failure Reduction Forum (BTFR) involving power plant top management.
• 2020: Reduction of the boiler plant downtime by 10% through implementation of new non-destructive testing technology like Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) on butt welds.
• 2020: Designed a smart HP Bypass valve condensate water pipework support system to address the frequent failures on condensate pipework flexible hose and achieved zero annual total unit load losses due to unavailability of HP bypass valve.
• 2021: Overseeing the design and implementation of a foreign material screening system for the wet concentrate handling system.
• 2021 - 2023: Managing the rolling out and implementation of online condition monitoring system for Anglo American SIB Phase 1 & 2 Projects on critical A and B assets.
