  • 2009: Increased the boiler plant availability factor from 75 to 85% through systematic application of reliability centred maintenance strategies, that is, optimizing reactive, preventive and condition-based philosophies.
  • 2010: Designed a 20-ton piston suspension system to hold in position a 20-ton floating piston for Blast Furnace gas holder and reduced the mean time to repair the gas holder by approximately 10%.
  • 2012: Redesigned compressed air system for Bar Rod Mill Plant to match its upgraded throughput of 200 000 tons per annum of finished steel products (BS4449 Gr 460).
  • 2019: Developed the Boiler Penthouse Clean Conditions Procedure for prevention of Short-Term Overheating Failure Mechanism due to foreign materials in tubing on post maintenance plant start-ups resulting in annual maintenance and revenue loss savings of ZAR 179 million.
  • 2019: Led the Short-Term Overheating (STO) task team in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on boiler plant failures and developed preventative actions to avoid repeat failures. This is managed and reviewed through regular presentations in task team work groups and Boiler Tube Failure Reduction Forum (BTFR) involving power plant top management.
  • 2020: Reduction of the boiler plant downtime by 10% through implementation of new non-destructive testing technology like Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) on butt welds.
  • 2020: Designed a smart HP Bypass valve condensate water pipework support system to address the frequent failures on condensate pipework flexible hose and achieved zero annual total unit load losses due to unavailability of HP bypass valve.
