Problem Statement

The gap between theory and practice in the TVET sector is a complicated topic that is influenced by curriculum design, industry relationships, technological change, and skill deficits (Terblanche, 2017). Bridging this gap demands continued collaboration between educational institutions and employers, increased investment in practical learning experiences, and more flexible curricula that address both current and future worker needs (Rozalan, Noor, Abdullah, & Saat, 2022). By developing these links, TVET holds the potential to provide the knowledge and skills required for the job market (Okon, 2019). Therefore, as a TVET tourism lecturer, I would like to explore the extent to which TVET tourism students are prepared for the workplace after completing their studies at a TVET college. This research aims to understand how and to what extent tourism students are prepared during their studies to manage their work requirements within the tourism sector.
