My name is Robert Coetzee, from a sunny South Africa a pedagogue (teacher) for the past 35 years and one month in English – Native language as well Afrikaans.
Teaching is a passion of mine, my motto is to “Inspire, empower and to equip", learners.
I obtained a three years diploma in Education at Dower College in Port Elizabeth in 1990,
Completed further studies in ACE (Advance Certificate in Education) at the North West University of Potchefstroom,
Obtained TEFL 120 hours in September 2024.
This involved workshops for pedagogues (teachers), guidance in curriculum coverage, which gives the pedagogues an indication of how to complete the curriculum in a given time frame.

One of the major problems we are currently experiencing is the fact that our learners are struggling to read. Reading is not only a trait that learners need to make a success of their future careers, it is also a skill they need to develop socially, intellectually and emotionally.
The one very important benefit of reading is to improve vocabulary and spelling, and this of course contributes to better communication skills.
Start a book club
This could be a club that meets weekly and talks about specific books. Learners can suggest books, they can talk about their experience with a book and even give critiques.
Read aloud
Have learners read aloud in class. This is not just an activity for language classrooms. Learners need to be able to read in all subjects and when they read aloud they not only practice their reading skills, but you can also help with the pronunciation of your subject jargon.
Schedule specific reading times in your classroom
Reserve the first or last ten minutes of your lesson for silent reading. Let the learners read interesting books, magazines or even newspapers. They can also use the internet to find interesting articles to read. Make sure you stay involved in this activity. Walk slowly through and see what the learners are reading, so you can ask follow-up questions and see what your learners are interested in. You can also make it more fun by sometimes sitting outside and reading with your children.
