Overview of achievements

  • SA Regional championships 2013 (Level 2) aged 10 he won 4 medals 1 Gold and three silver and was ranked by Swimming South Africa in the top 5 for his age group in various strokes and distances
  • SA Regional age group championships 2014 (Level 2 ) aged 11 he won 7 Gold medals and 1 silver and was ranked by Swimming South Africa in the top 3 for his age group in various strokes and distances.
  • SA National age group championships 2015 (Level 3) aged 12 he won 1 silver medal and swam in various finals and was ranked by Swimming South Africa in the top 10 for his age group in various strokes and distances.
  • SA National age group championship 2016 aged 13 (age group 13-14) he qualified for various finals but did not win any medals. He was ranked by Swimming South Africa in the top 10 for his age group in various strokes and distances. He was also awarded Western Province swimming colours.
  • During Righardt's high school career he swam for the University of Stellenbosch (Maties) swimming club and is coached by head coach Pierre de Roubaix. He also represented his school's swimming team and was Swim Team captain in 2019 and 2020.
  • Under the guidance and commitment of his swim coach Pierre and his team at Maties, Righard's swimming achievements are numerous at provincial and National level.
  • At the Western Cape swimming championships held during December 2017 representing Maties Righardt participated in 10 individual events over a five day period, of which he qualified for the finals in all and won two gold Medals and three bronze medals.
  • At the SA Junior National Aquatic championship 2018 held in Durban representing Western Cape Provincial team, aged 15 (Age group 15-16) he won 1 silver (200 meter free style), 1 Bronze medal (400 meter free style) and qualified for various finals including the 1500 free style (Age group 15-18) where he was placed 4th in the final, the 400 Meter individual medley (Age group 15-18) placed 6th and the 200 meter individual medley qualified 6th.
  • Righardt also swam Senior Men qualifying times in the 800 meter free style, 1500 Meter free style, 400 meter free style and the 400 meter individual medley which enabled him to participate at the SA senior aquatic championships as a member of the Western Cape provincial swimming team. At this event he won a Gold medal in the Youth Elite 1500 meter free style. He also broke the Western Cape 15 year age group record that stood for 12 years.
  • Righardt was honored to be included in the South African swimming squad during this competition. Righardt also swam as a Junior a SA Senior Men qualifying time in the 800 meter free style, 1500 Meter free style, 400 meter free style and the 400 meter individual medley.
  • Shortly after this competition Righardt received the good news that he was officially receiving his Protea colours ( SA National swimming colours) after being selected for the Senior South African swimming squad to represent South Africa at the 13th CANA African Swimming Championships in Algiers, Algeria during September 2018. At this competition Righardt qualified for and swam in the finals of the 400 meter free style and timed finals in the 800 meter and the 1500 meter freestyle events.
  • He received his Western Cape provincial colours and as a member of this team won a Gold medal in the Youth Elite 1500 meter free style event at the Senior National swimming championship in Port Elizabeth. He also broke the Western Cape 15 year age group record which was held for 12 years by a fellow Paul Roos old boy Heerden Herman.
  • At the SA short course (25 meter) championship held in Durban during April, Righardt qualified for three finals in the 400, 800 and 1500 meters free style and won a bronze medal as a member of the 4 x 200 meter men's relay team.
  • During the 2019 season Righardt qualified and was selected to represent South Africa at the World junior Championships in Budapest Hungary. During 2020 the world pandemic also hit South Africa and no swimming competitions took place for most of 2020 and 2021.
  • During 2023 season Righardt won various competitions locally including the coastal Grand Prix held in Cape Town where he received the simmer of the meet award. At the South African National Championships which was held in Port Elizabeth Righardt placed second in the 200 meter freestyle as well as the 400 Meter Freestyle events and won Gold in the 800 and 1500 meter Freestyle events. He was crowned as the South African Champion in these two events and also managed to Qualify for the senior World Championships in Fukuoka Japan.
  • Righardt represented South Africa at these championships and improved his world rankings from 123 to 23 for the 800n meter free event. Back in South Africa Righardt participated in the South African short course Championships and was crowned SA champ in the 200 meter free, 800 meter free and 1500 meter free and won a silver medal in the 200 meter Butterfly event.
