I hold a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Forensic Science and Technology, Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Science and Technology and National Diploma in Policing.
Conduct inspection and investigation of areas including strategic risk, financial risk, fraud, theft, asset management and maintenance, procurement and contract management, contractor management, theft of energy, cables and meters, assault, crime, and any transgressions of legislative or council policies.
• Review complaints alleging fraud and corruption by facilitating attendance of complainants/whistleblowers and obtaining oral evidence, written statements, and supporting documentation.
• Prioritise investigations by considering the impact, value, and importance of each case.
• Prepare investigation work plans for new cases by examining preliminary information, identifying the subject of investigation, determining required resources, and identifying applicable legislation within South Africa.
• Plan and manage investigative tasks by maintaining investigation diaries and logs of daily visits, activities, and evidence obtained.
• Execute preliminary forensic investigations through suspect profiling, field surveillance, and interviewing witnesses and suspects.
• Examine relevant government and business records, expert reports, and correspondence to procure information; conduct sample audits and system reviews; cultivate informer networks.
• Perform forensic analysis of relevant documentation through systematic examination and maintenance of chain of evidence.
• Respond to crime scenes and locations where offences have occurred to obtain necessary evidence.
• Generate investigation status reports reflecting progress of investigations.
• Provide regular feedback to management and customers regarding investigation progress and outcomes.
• Liaise and provide support to SAPS, Senior Management (eThekwini Electricity), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and other law enforcement agencies.
• Evaluate investigative findings to determine relevance, admissibility, and probable cause, and make recommendations to senior management.
• Present evidence in criminal court proceedings, civil litigation, disciplinary hearings, misconduct enquiries, and commissions of enquiry.
• Remain abreast of new developments and investigative techniques through research of legislation, policies, and investigative practices.
• Identify and investigate scrap metal dealers involved in illegal purchasing and selling of electrical infrastructure.
• Identify and investigate organised syndicates involved in theft of electrical infrastructure.
• Accompany technical personnel and stakeholders during random inspections of scrap dealer premises.
• Attend workshops, seminars, and training programmes to remain updated on legislation and professional investigative standards.
