- Understanding and Interpretation of Municipal Services Act, By-laws, and National legislation such as NEMA, NWA, WSA, NEMWA including its regulations and norms and standards;

- Working Knowledge of Standards such as SANS 241, Quality Management System, ISO 17025, and best practice guidelines for water treatment and monitoring from DWAF;

- Plan daily route samples

- Undertake sampling within various sampling points of the waste water treatment plants and deliver them to laboratories;

- Take monthly borehole sample, composts, belt cakes and dried sludge samples and deliver them to laboratories;

- Cleaning of analyser tubing, auto sampler bottles, filters and inlet tubing weekly;

- Record daily readings;

- Check SCADA

- Control and ensure quality by running calibration, QA’s, verification and run validation;

- Knowledge of material data sheet (MDS) and compliance to safety policies and standards.

- Prepare reagents and standards

- Ensure stock availability by maintaining minimum stock level

- Adhere to safety and JW vehicle policy

• Plan the laboratory activities on a daily basis
• Perform analytical analysis on waste water samples and solid samples
• To maintain the accreditation status by ensuring that the quality management system is correctly implemented and maintained in accordance to the ISO 17025 standard
• To ensure that all the laboratory equipment's are calibrated and verified as per the standard operating procedures
• Diagnose any deviation from the instrument and troubleshoot if necessary
• Act on the analyst capacity when required
• Ensure good laboratory practice through good housekeeping
• Developing methods and validate them in accordance with the standard operating procedures
• Review the standard operating procedures or analytical methods as and when required
• Participate in research and present such work findings at the Johannesburg water young professional forum
• Participation in proficiency test scheme
• Conversant with Johannesburg water quality management system and ISO - Standard including all relevant SANAS R-documents
• Participate in internal and external audits and contribute positively towards improvements of the quality management system
• Ready to be assessed for SANAS technical signatory
• Adhere to occupational and safety rules and comply to JW code of conduct and condition of services
• Able to work during after hours if required (i.e

Overtime or emergency)

• Preparation of laboratory reagents in accordance to the relevant SOPs.
• capturing results on LIMS
• identification, investigating, recording and reporting of non conforming results

• Data capturing on LIMS and interpretation of results before reporting to the Laboratory Manager
• Conducting root-cause-analysis on non-conforming work
