DHR role and Responsibilities

The Deputy Head of Residence manages a team of six hall heads, keeps accountability towards the delivery of an excellent residential life program in theirhouses, oversees the well-being of the students’ and adults in their Houses and hold both adults and students up to expectations in residential life.

Specifically, the DHR provide managerial leadership, coaching and guidance to each Hall Head.

  • Conduct effective performance management tasks for the purposes of elevating members of their team
  • Report on the state of their Halls at regular intervals, as articulated by the priorities of the program
  • Steward the process of appointing and training of Residential Assistants and relieving when necessary
  • Support Hall Heads and Residential Assistants to create a positive culture of healthy living and leadership learning in the residence.
  • Support Hall heads and Residential Assistants to uphold residential life rules and behavioural expectations.
  • Work closely with the Matron, Residential Assistants and Hall Heads to ensure that students’ rooms and common spaces are kept clean, safe and well-maintained.
  • Lead the planning and execution of social activities within, between and across residential halls.
  • Provide leadership for faculty and residential staff in adult supervision during prep and after hours in keeping with the Duty Roster.
  • Steward the safe keeping and storage of student travel documents.

The DHR collaborate with the Head of Residence on the strategic growth and development of the Residential Life program, including the revision and implementation of policies for safety, security, comfort and holistic student development.
