Work History

Senior Analyst: Global Trade Compliance

SC Johnson and Son South Africa
02.2022 - Current

  • Managed the Pre-Shipment Verification Conformity (PVoC) route (b) registrations governed by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Uganda Bureau of Standards (UNBS). This allowed us to import into Kenya and Uganda without physical inspections, and due to this, we managed to benefit from a cost saving of $35,000.00 annually and 2 days saving in overall clearance time.
  • Currently managing Kenya Bureau of Standards registrations for only Egypt shipments.
  • Managing complex projects, importation, and exportation requirements to ensure no business disruptions. This is done by analyzing the import and export requirements and restrictions to ensure customs compliance before shipping.
  • Cost saving/avoidance and containment (process improvement).
  • Cost duty avoidance of $3,316.79 achieved from successfully winning Nigerian customs HS code classification argument on our raw material.
  • Cost duty avoidance of $8,715.96 achieved from successfully winning Kenya customs HS code classification argument on our raw material. We applied for a ruling on our classification, which was successfully approved by the Kenya Revenue Authority.
  • Cost duty avoidance of $59,642.76 achieved from claiming duty refunds from EU-originating shipments shipped to South Africa by submitting missed EUR1 certificates to customs.
  • Cost duty saving of $13,000.00 achieved from changing sourcing to Nigeria for exports to Ghana and benefiting from duty preferentiality through the ECOWAS FTA.
  • Managed the offline shipments without any disruptions by ensuring the import country's regulations are met before shipping to avoid issues.
  • Managing export returns, ensuring there's correct and sufficient shipping documents to facilitate returns compliantly and efficiently.
  • Successfully supported with importation of a production line machine into Kenya. Customs clearing was smooth, and we were able to import the parts of the palletized machine as an assembled unit, which saw us benefit from import duty costs.
  • Currently working on a Map Import Clearance Process for Nigeria. This will assist in streamlining the process and assist with new employee onboarding.
  • Managing and maintaining Part Database, which falls under our master data maintenance initiative. This assists with updated SKU data on SAP and ensures shipping document accuracy, which will lead to smooth customs exports and imports.
  • Perform monthly audits on our importations to ensure compliant customs entry, and apply corrective measures for inaccurate entries.
  • Ensure compliance in our SADC declarations and certifications by qualifying our SADC market export portfolio, and we are in the process of moving the SADC certificate issuance from customer agent to SC Johnson to eliminate audit risks.
  • Import and export COMESA qualification efficiently done to ensure compliance.
  • Support costing team in identifying and achieving the best P&L by providing import duty rates.
