• Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Electrical Maintenance & Repairs Perform installation, maintenance, and fault finding on quarry and plant electrical systems
  Service and repair phase shovels, primary & secondary crushers, and conveyor systems
  Maintain LV and MV systems, including motors, panels, and distribution networks
  2. Switchgear & MCC Work Inspect, test, and maintain switchgear, LV & MV MCCs (Motor Control Centres)
  Carry out isolation, switching, and safe energizing of equipment
  Diagnose faults in protection systems and control circuits
  3. Trailing Cables & Mobile Equipment Install, joint, repair, and test trailing cables for mobile machinery
  Ensure cable management and compliance with safety standards
  4. Transformers & Power Distribution Maintain and monitor transformers and associated protection systems
  Conduct inspections, oil checks, and basic testing
  Ensure reliable power supply to plant and equipment
  5. Drives & Motor Control Maintain and troubleshoot VSDs (Variable Speed Drives) and liquid starters
  Monitor motor performance and optimise operational efficiency
  6. Conveyor & Safety Systems Maintain electrical components of conveyor belts
  Test and ensure functionality of safety devices (pull cords, belt drift switches, interlocks, E-stops)
  7. Compliance & Standards Ensure all installations and maintenance comply with SANS 10142 (Wiring Code)
  Adhere to safety regulations, lockout procedures, and statutory requirements
  Maintain accurate records of inspections and maintenance
  8. Fault Finding & Troubleshooting Diagnose and repair electrical faults on plant equipment efficiently
  Minimize downtime through proactive maintenance and quick response
  9. Standby & Breakdown Response Perform standby duties and respond to breakdowns after hours
  Provide emergency repairs to restore plant operations
  10. Safety & Risk Management Conduct risk assessments and adhere to safe work procedures
  Use correct PPE and ensure a safe working environment

Plant Electrician And Apprenticeship

Install, configure, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley E-3 motor protection relays and control systems
Maintain MCCs, transformers, and electrical distribution systems
Perform MV and LV switching, isolation, and commissioning of plant equipment
