  • Due to the nature of my managerial role, I have travelled extensively in many countries across most of East, West & Southern Africa, Congo (DRC and Brazzaville), Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Republic of Guinea etc., the Middle East, UK, Europe etc., as a result of which have built up considerable understanding of diverse religions, cultures, traditions etc.

  • Ndovu Trading Group, which includes Ndovu Trading South Africa, Niktanya, World Logistics and Ambassador Voyages – offices located in several countries worldwide.
  • Employed at an executive & managerial role reporting directly to the Managing Director & Financial Director.
  • Duties at a managerial level included:
  • Development of branded and new products, such as NDOVU cement, salt, wheat flour, rice etc., which are very popular in a number of East, Central & South African countries.
  • Overseeing sales & purchase operations so as to ensure availability of adequate stock levels with smooth execution.
  • Set up an effective “End to End” Supply Chain Solution whereby with full liaison with suppliers, buyers, Shipping & Logistical Solutions, including negotiating shipping terms & rates with various shipping lines such as Maersk, CMA-CGM etc. Ensuring effective overland cross border railage & inland haulage in numerous countries across the Asian sub Continent and most of Africa.
  • Liaising on port operations, customs clearance, warehousing, marine & general insurance etc.
  • Sourcing products from point of origin / production, right through to onward sale to end users as well as to the wholesale & retail distribution trade, and manufacturing / processing industries.
  • Negotiating financing arrangements with various banks across Africa/UK/Europe which involved structured trade finance (STF) and payment methodology, transactional trade lines including barter arrangements, CMA (Collateral Management Agreements), letters of credit, documentary collections etc. As a result I developed extensive experience and negotiating skills, especially in difficult countries such as the previous Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), Sierra Leone etc.
  • Assisting with the hedging of price sensitive commodities such cocoa, coffee, other agri products, various metals, minerals, energy products etc., on international terminal markets such as ICE (Futures Trading Exchange for Crude Oil, Energy etc.), LIFFE (London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange), LME (London Metals Exchange), NCDEX India (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited) etc.
  • Liaising with the clients on strict quality control measures, including mandatory inspection requirements for most countries and /or as per contracts etc.
  • Liaising with Governmental regulators & bodies such as customs, port authorities, bureau’s of standards in East Africa (EABS, TBS, KBS), South Africa (SABS), India (BIS), European Community (EN), UK (BSI), Government Departments such as National Regulator of Compulsory Specifications (NRCS – South Africa), US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), ISO Certification, Regulatory Audits etc., to ensure compliance within the specified framework.
  • Liaising on execution & control (where necessary under CMA etc.) of trade and logistical documentation such as Invoices, Packing Lists, Insurance Policies & Certificates, Bills of Lading, Forwarders Certificate of Receipt, Waybills, Certificates of Origin & EUR, GSP Declarations, Health & Phytosanitary Certificates, Inspection Certificates etc., in line with Incoterms 2020 (or earlier) and other international standards.
  • General day to day management responsibilities.
  • Due to the nature of my job I was always heavily involved in diplomatically resolving difficult situation such as labour strikes, port congestion, excessive demands for payment of unrealistic import & export duties & taxes etc. etc.
  • As a result I gained extensive experience in strategic public & diplomatic relations, for example at Ministerial levels, CEO’s of major companies such as Mehta Group India, Glencore, Sucden etc.
