I'm organized and dependable and can manage multiple projects with a positive attitude. I'm willing to take on new challenges in order to grow professionally.
I developed an interest in Community Paeds while I was still working as a Paediatrician at Edendale Hospital. So I did a Diploma in Community and General Paeds with University of Cape Town which help me see that I was definitely interested in Community Paeds. So I got a job as a DCST at Harry Gwala Health District where I currently work and have found the job challenging but fulfilling. I am learning to audit and monitor health systems in place, engage in management meetings where I not only learn a lot but am also able to give input that helps others grow professionally.
I got a job at Edendale Hospital where my leadership skills were refined even more and I got to manage some portfolios for the department. I was also exposed to registrars at this stage and got to mentor and support registrars and as well as continue with Medical Officer and student teaching. I also learned to resolved conflicts and negotiate mutually beneficial agreements between parties.
After I qualitified as a Paediatrician, I got a job Empangeni as a Specialist. I enjoyed my time there and learnt how to be a leader. However, it was far from my family so I moved to Pietermaritzburg
I then went back to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital as a Medical Officer this time where I had initially planned to spend six months in Paediatrics followed by six months in Obstetrics and Gynaecology but ended up loving Paediatrics so much that I never made it to Obstetrics and Gynaecology and decided to specialize in Paediatrics instead
I spent a year as a Community Service Medical Officer where I learnt to be even more independant as a doctor as supervision on the scanty due to shortage of staff. I rotated through Paediatrics and Outpatient Department
This is where I did my internship training and learnt how to be a working professional and how to care for patients. Internship was over a 2yr period where I rotated through Surgery, Family medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopedics and Anaesthetics
