With a strong foundation in strategic programme management, strategy formulation and implementation and business improvement, Nomie Basdeo brings over two decades of experience in various senior leadership roles across financial and legal services industries. Most recently, she served as the Lead for the Project Management Office in the Strategy and Business Improvement department at Webber Wentzel Attorneys, where she worked for nearly four years with leadership teams to distil the firm’s strategy into a strategic portfolio of programmes, projects and initiatives and managed the execution thereof. Nomie managed a team of project managers, business analysts, process engineers, change managers, and a contingent of multi-disciplinary contract project resources, based locally and offshore in Europe and Asia. Prior to this, Nomie contributed as a Product Strategist at Nedbank Business Banking, where she passionately enhanced client experience and spearheaded product innovation for over four years. She also held pivotal roles such as Strategic Portfolio Manager in the Strategic Management Office of Nedbank Business Banking, where she managed the crafting, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of strategic programmes; Manager of Business Process Optimisation at Absa Fiduciary Services, and Strategy Manager at Absa Health Care Consultants. Her expertise extends to product management, strategic change management, strategy formulation and implementation and business process re-engineering. Her earlier career milestones include positions at Discovery Health and KPMG Risk Advisory Services, where she commenced her career as a management consultant. Her consistent focus on fostering innovation, optimizing processes, and aligning organizational strategies to strategic objectives has established Nomie as a results-oriented leader and a trusted strategic advisor capable of navigating complex people, culture, process and technology challenges to deliver measurable, value-creating outcomes. Since March 2024, Nomie has been on a personal sabbatical to provide support and stability for her children following the sudden passing of her spouse. In August 2025, she re-engaged her professional pursuits by accepting a contract opportunity with Adams & Adams, a leading full-service intellectual property law firm, where she successfully re-aligned and stabilized one of the firm’s highest-priority strategic projects that had gone off track.
Nomie is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, results-driven leader with a deep passion for driving strategic change by leveraging people, process, data and technology. She set-up and entrenched the governance framework for Webber Wentzel’s first Programme Management Office. With extensive experience in leading strategic transformation initiatives, she spearheaded and led a legal services industry-wide (Webber Wentzel, ENSAfrica, Bowmans) strategic transformation pilot project commissioned by the Judge President of the Gauteng High Court, Dunstan Mlambo, to transform courts from a paper-based way of working to a digitised way of working. From 2023 – 2024 she led Webber Wentzel’s first agile programme which entailed the replacement of the firm’s legacy finance system with a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations system. Nomie’s multi-disciplinary skillset was also leveraged by legal services departments to craft project plans for key client proposals. She also led the firm-wide implementation of POPIA, Webber Wentzel’s COVID-19 Response Plan, Webber Wentzel’s Cape Town Office Move/Stay Option Analysis and provided oversight of the refurbishment of Webber Wentzel’s Cape Town office. During her tenure at Nedbank Business Banking, she worked closely with Executive and Operations Committees to craft, cascade and operationalise strategies across organisational levels. She played a pivotal role in setting up the governance framework for Nedbank Business Banking’s Strategic Management Office which enabled crystalising the overarching strategy into a strategic portfolio of programmes, projects and initiatives that she monitored, measured and reported on at committees (Operations, Executive).Her passion for innovation and client-centricity led her to embrace the role of Product Strategist where she led cross-functional product, function, channel & segment discussions to co-create, design and improve client journeys to enhance client experience for transactional and electronic banking products. She was also seconded to lead Business Banking’s highest priority strategic programme which entailed automation of the client-onboarding, credit scoring, credit approval and decision process, for which she was awarded the prestigious Nedbank Achiever award. Nomie also led other flagship programmes/projects i.e Enterprise-wide Client Onboarding, Transforming Big Data into analytics for frontline action, Design of the Client Engagement Operating Model, Tools for Portfolio-based Client Relationship Management, Finserve Compliance, Replacement of the Cash Management System, Alignment of Business Banking’s Transactional Banking Unit’s Frontline Operating Model to Support Services In the role of Business Optimisation Manager at Absa Fiduciary Services, Nomie continued to work with Absa Trust’s Executive Committee to refresh and implement Absa Trust’s strategy. She compiled Absa Trust’s Balanced Scorecard with defined strategic themes, objectives, goals, deliverables and key performance indicators and compiled quarterly status reports for the Executive Committee and Board. As part of Absa Trust’s strategy refresh, she also programme managed the national implementation of LEAN. Other projects led by Nomie include compiling the change management plan for the re-design and re-launch of the COMPAQ Umbrella Fund and conducting the Total Quality Management survey for Absa Trust. Nomie spent almost four years as the Strategy Manager for Absa Health Care Consultants (AHCC), where she designed and implemented a robust 3 year rolling strategic planning process. She facilitated sessions with management to develop the AHCC Balanced Scorecard with defined strategic themes, objectives, goals, deliverables and key performance indicators and monitored and reported on the implementation thereof. She conducted ongoing qualitative and quantitative research on healthcare industry trends, competitor activity, regulatory changes and the product innovation landscape. Nomie led a range of strategic programmes and projects i.e. Development of a Gap Cover Product, Development of a Corporate Absenteeism and Wellness Management Product, Merger and Acquisition of Glenrand MIB Healthcare, Annual National Employer Medical Scheme Renewal Process. She also conducted analysis of healthcare related business risks and formulated risk mitigation strategies for AHCC’s corporate clients. Nomie’s tenure at Absa Digital Channels and Discovery Health was short yet impactful. At Absa Digital Channels, she was tasked to lead the implementation of Absa’s first online share trading platform product, MyAbsa. This was a new product on Absa’s Internet Banking site which enabled customers to view a consolidated portfolio of Absa banking and financial services investment products in a secure environment. She also represented Absa in a collaborative initiative with other banks and Bankserv to produce a product that facilitated the presentation of a customer’s bills on the internet or any other electronically enabled channel, to provide facilities for payment. As a Business Innovation Consultant at Discovery Health, she led a range of business optimisation projects i.e. Analysis of cost drivers for low-income medical schemes, Automation of the onsite manual hospital audit process, Re-engineering procurement processes between franchises and Discovery, Re-engineering the As-Is processes in the Commissions Department of Discovery. Before joining Discovery Health and Absa, Nomie was fortunate to have commenced her career as a Management Consultant at KPMG Risk Advisory Services where she underwent extensive training which equipped her with an array of skills from the onset of her career. Nomie was exposed to various industries and thought leaders during her tenure at KPMG, which afforded her the opportunity to hone her skills. Flagship projects that she worked on include: The UIF Turnaround Strategy, Conversion of Letaba Hospital and Maphuta-Malatjie Hospitals into Centres of Excellence, Compilation of a business case for the Moses Kotane Hospital in Ledig and the Organisational redesign for the merger of the Limpopo Dept of Health and Welfare.
