My years at PR Agencies: I have over 25 years experience in Public Relations and Communications. In my early career, I worked at Meropa Communications specifically on Government Relations, working with the then newly formed Limpopo Government. My work included Crisis Communications for the Department of Health (Sarafina Scandal) and overall PR and Media Relations. I was also responsible for the promotion of Procter and Gamble products through Jozi FM (Vicks, Always, Oil of Olay and Pampers) through drafting radio scripts for one hour shows that encouraged call-ins with a qualified nurse to answer medical questions. I also worked at G’echo PR and Marketing during the Africa Aerospace 2000 Exhibition hosted by Denel showcasing South Africa’s capability to produce military equipment. My years within government I transitioned and worked within Government, specifically as the Ministerial Spokesperson for the National Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs. I enhanced my Government Relations to include Parliamentary Liaison, Media Relations, Radio Interviews and Crisis Communications especially during Land Settlement events. I worked in partnership with the communication teams for both Agriculture and Land Affairs and created a cohesive communications strategy for the Minister. I was also responsible for research and speech writing for the Minister, the drafting of media releases and position statements. My years within Rail From Government, I moved to a new environment within Rail, namely Bombela Turnkey Contractor for the construction of the Gautrain. I acquired new skills focusing on Construction Communications, Environmental Communications, Stakeholder Relations and managing the information sharing on complex construction activities in language that was easily understood by the public. I was also responsible for managing international media (National Geographics on big construction projects). I was also responsible for manning the complaint calls prior to the establishment of the call centre to capture the complaints and create frequently asked questions to be answered by the technical teams. I then moved to PRASA, starting off at Metrorail Gauteng (an operator for PRASA) as the Head of Marketing where I Managed the Rovos Rail accident that affected train operations in Gauteng. I was promoted to PRASA Corporate as Head of Communications and Spokesperson for Group CEO. I coordinated the call for RFQs for the manufacturing of the new Metrorail trains working with GIBB Engineering Consultants. I gained knowledge on operational efficiencies to enhance rail operations, I coordinated the PR for PRASA during Africa Rail Exhibitions and SARA Rail respectively ensuring that our Executive leaders secure speaking slots that influence the tone of the exhibition. I was seconded to the Metrorail Western Cape and worked with the local MME for transport and the mayor to promote Passenger Rail and rail safety. I worked with the Rail Safety Regulator, conducted media interviews and Crisis Communications. I left PRASA in April 2025 to pursue new prospects.
