- I have been currently working in this department for 3 years now.
- In the ward I deal with intubated patients where we do observations hourly, we do blood gas, suction of patients regularly, hourly turning for bedsore prevention, offering opioids as per doctors order, administration of medication as per prescription, monitoring input and output hourly
- Managing and reporting abnormalities as noted to the doctor
- Insertion of phlebotomy for intravenous fluid and taking blood
- Insertion of catheter and doing catheter care
- We also currently monitor patients on CPAP, making sure personal hygiene is done, prevention of bedsores to patients who are unable to self turn by ordering them nimbus mattress, administration of medication and opioids as per doctors order and prescription, monitoring of input and output hourly, doing blood gases, insertion of phlebotomy to run intravenous fluids and also drawing of blood, insertion of catheters and doing catheter care
- We also look after patients on high flow, face mask and room air depending on the medical condition the patient is admitted for
- Nursing care plan is drawn based on patient’s admission status, we do hourly observations for all patients in the unit, strictly monitoring of input and out of patients and making sure it is correctly charted, offer counselling and make sure patients receive the care they are required to get
- Making sure patients are transferred to the ward or outside to the nearing hospital as per discharge instructions
- Administration of oral medication and intravenous medication, Nursing care plan, Patient assessment report, Monitoring and administering of prescribed treatment, Effective daily planning e.g
- Duty allocations, Safe and secure therapeutic environment, Accurate reporting and collection of statistics and audits, Basic needs for the patients, Health education for patients and family, Insertion of IV cannula, catheter and nasogastric tube, Ordering schedule drugs medication, Admission and discharges, Taking blood samples, sputum and urine, Assisting doctors with endotracheal intubation, Nursing care of intubated patients, Nursing care of patients on CPAP mask and HiFlow ventilators
