Stock Management (Bracken)
Kits Stock Management – keeping a detailed record of all bulk stock and understanding the system.
Coordinating the transfer of stock between different warehouses, ensuring accurate and timely updates are made to inventory records following stock movement.
Stock Control – monitoring bulk stock levels and making decisions about stock control, such as reordering low stock and reducing excess supply and implementing measures to minimize stock damages or losses.
Stock Taking - conducting regular physical counts of all bulk inventory to ensure records match the actual stock on hand and identifying discrepancies and investigating causes to maintain record accuracy.
Fumigation - managing the process of fumigation in warehouses to prevent infestation and maintain the quality of the stock.
Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations during the fumigation process.
Seed Processing (Bracken and Pidelta)
Responsible for ensuring that the quality of seed processed by third party contractors complies with LAKE quality standards.
Continuously check graded seed that seed complies with all quality standards.
Should seed not comply to take it up with contractor management.
Coordinate and ensure processed seed is timeously moved from the processing plant’s to either the LAKE warehouse at Bracken or to the Greytown Warehouse.
Coordinate movement of unprocessed seed from LAKE warehouses to third party contractors.
Coordinate transfer of processed seed from third party contractors to Coordinate and Manage all seed movements from facilities on KITS.
Responsible quality control and quality assurance for all LAKE imported or locally produced seed.
Quality Control
Ensuring that all seed sampling is conducted in accordance with the International Seed Testing Association's (ISTA) standards for accuracy and consistency.
Collecting of raw seed samples at the appropriate time (seed receiving) and after seed processing.
Examining seeds for any defects or abnormalities that could affect quality, such as damage or disease.
Quality Assurance
-Verifying that all packaging is correctly labelled and sealed to maintain seed integrity and traceability.
Timely submission of seed samples for testing to ensure that results are relevant and actionable.
Recording and filing results in appropriate folders on the computer.
Keeping track of flowering stages and inspection results and sharing this information with community groups involved in the seed production process.
Documenting and reporting any instances where seeds fail to meet established quality standards and taking appropriate action to address these issues.
Chemical Handling & Fumigations
Ensure correct mixing of slurry.
Regularly check chemical stock levels to maintain an up-to-date inventory.
Responsible for scheduling fumigation during times that will have the least impact on non-target species and human activities.
Perform spraying at the right time, considering weather conditions and pest life cycles to maximize effectiveness.
Record all fumigation activities, including chemicals used, concentrations, and exposure times for future reference and compliance.
Land Inspections
While field work is not a primary function of the Quality controller job, the quality controller may be required to undertake LAND inspections when the field Agronomist is performing functions elsewhere and/or when Quality control/Assurance activities at the various warehouses has quietened
down. Requirements will be to:
Follow the official process for land registrations.
Adhere to SANSOR’s guidelines for field report submission, ensuring reports are comprehensive and submitted within the stipulated deadlines.
Adhere to DALRYD guidelines for Phytosanitary field report submission, ensuring reports are comprehensive and submitted within the stipulated deadlines.
Conduct thorough inspections using checklists, follow established procedures, collect accurate data, use appropriate equipment, document results, and follow up on recommendations.
Flowering Inspections
Ensure consistent availability and presence when needed during flowering inspections.
Ensure correct process for detasselling.
Reporting back to Grower both verbally and on Whats App community groups.
Keep accurate records of flowering times and stages.
Ensure the Dashboard is correctly and regularly updated with timing splits.
Keeping track of flowering stages and inspection results and sharing this information with community groups involved in the seed production process.
Harvesting Inspections
Ensuring availability and presence on-site to assist the harvesting process.
Conducting quality checks during harvesting to maintain production standards.
Taking raw seed field samples for analysis to assess crop health and quality.
Recording data on harvest yields and conditions for future reference.
Coordinating with the Field Agronomist to manage tasks and schedules effectively.
