Full time Surgical Private Practice Life Flora Hospital
I am currently employed as a general surgeon at Netcare Garden City Hospital in full time private practice. I am looking for an exciting opportunity to maximise on my skill set and strive towards my goal of optimizing patient care at Life Flora Hospital and adding value to helping its growth.
I have extensive experience in managing both patients and staff. My clinical experience and insight are a huge strength by understanding day to day medical practice and hospital management.
During the many challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I was tasked with the management of the Covid Surgical Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. This was an unprecedented situation, and I was able to adapt and innovate to ensure successful management whilst ensuring patient and staff safety.
I strive for continuous professional development, and have completed 2 years of training in Colorectal Surgery through the University of Witwatersrand. Rotating through Wits Donald Gordon Medcial \centre, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. HPCSA Training Number W-S1-02-04. I will write and complete the formal exam October 2024. I am technically proficient in Minimally invasive and open colorectal surgery and proctology. I am skilled in both Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy. Both diagnostic and interventional.
I have focused interest in robotic colorectal surgery on the Da Vinci Robotic System. Which is my ultimate personal goal, I have currently completed the simulation training and have complotted my simulation logs.
I have breifly spent time at the UCT CSB to again some business acumen to assist in starting up private practice.
These are skills outside surgery that will be useful to help and strengthen the teams within Life Flora Hospital. Values based leadership, service delivery and excellence, systems thinking and a digital health strategy are skills I have that will enable me to manage my private practice and add value to the hospital group in there efforts to establish Life Flora Hospital as the centre of surgical excellence in South Africa.
The ability to work for a private health care group provides a platform for me to collaborate with the different groups in future and academic institutions to develop a integrated health care system within Life Flora Hospital .This includes on going training of doctors, nurses, allied health, research and integration with Universities.
With my unique perspective, experience and ideas for innovation, I believe Life Flora Hospital will be the ideal place for me to be a part of a team that will develop and maintain Life Flora Hospital as a centre of excellence.
Nishlin Naidoo
Currently employed as a consultant general surgery in Acute care surgery at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital. Focused interest in Minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy and acute care surgical emergencies. Providing on going registrar and student training. Supporting allied health nursing staff and management in the department. Providing ongoing Colorectal Fellow training through a CPD accredited meeting on Saturday mornings. Participating in ongoing colorectal journal club meetings .

University of Wits joint staff. Rotating through multiple colorectal units in Johannesburg in both private and state practice. Managing and treating colorectal pathology. I have acquired skills on colorectal disease including both benign and malignant pathology. Improved laparoscopic skills in both colectomy and Laparoscopic TME surgery. I have continuous training and improved skill in endoscopy.
I have a special interest in colorectal robotic surgery. I started a CPD accredited Colorectal Fellow training meeting including all colorectal surgeons in South Africa. This allows on going eduction ,networking and collaboration with complex colorectal cases. I oversee interns, registrars, and students and manage colorectal wards and clinics. I have continuous participation in both medical student and surgical registrar tutorials as a joint staff lecturer. I am also currently supervising a surgery registrar’s Masters in Medicine at Wits. I collaborated with teams including doctors, nurses and allied health care to optimize workflow and achieve continuous optimal service delivery in a resource constraint environment.
Functioning in the role of junior consultant with hospital management exposure.
Overseeing and assisting in training of surgical registrars, medical officers and interns and medical students
Participating in surgical audits within the unit.
Overseeing and assisting during the Covid pandemic by helping to organize and structure the surgical department within the hospital in combating the pandemic including working on the frontline, managing the Surgical Covid Unit to continuously assure good clinical governance despite the chaos of the Covid pandemic.
