• Participating in Budget Car Racing Series : A few colleagues and I are engaged in a racing series. The series allows a maximum budget of R50 000 to source and transform a second-hand car into a competitive racing vehicle. This involves comprehensive modifications such as installing a new engine, enhancing suspension, improving braking and cooling systems, and optimizing aerodynamics. We compete in annual endurance races, including a 9-hour and a 24-hour race, demonstrating teamwork, mechanical expertise, and strategic planning.
• Workshop Machinery Refurbishment : Work with colleagues to refurbish vintage workshop machinery, including a 1940s lathe and a 1980s milling machine. The process involves stripping down the machines, diagnosing and fixing main issues, making new shafts, replacing bearings, repairing oil cooling systems, thorough cleaning, and repainting. This demonstrates problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for mechanical restoration.
