Evaluating the rebound velocity of squash racquets, African Journal for Physical, Health Education, Recreation and Dance (AJPHERD), 2012-12-31, http://web.b.ebscohost.com/abstract?site=ehost&scope=site&jrnl=11174315&AN=84320504&h=3S7qQJL93pH5W6D0oZRO3cBOLJboD4CWUOCNYonR3knvlV3aNPuWMepqvf3O6rDJEDvGoT3Dyu7BS8wNmvwOoQ%3d%3d&crl=f&resultLocal=ErrCrlNoResults&resultNs=Ehost&crlhashurl=login.aspx%3fdir, Chantelle M Clohessy, Franscois Du Plessis, Nape Mothiba, Prof Gary D Sharp, Richard J Stretch, The objective of this research was to develop a method for assessing the rebound velocities of squash racquets, whilst simultaneously evaluating the performance of a selection of racquets used by typical South African club level squash players. The assessment method required the use of a high speed camera and a designed experiment controlled by string tension and racquet type. Racquet type was defined on a price basis. Analysis was performed using video graphics with statistical assessment using Statistica version 10. The results of the study indicated that there were differences in rebound velocities of different racquets if controlled for string tension. This research is an attempt to develop assessment methods into rebound characteristics of the lesser known racquet sport, squash.
