Hydrogen Evolution Reaction for Alkaline Water Splitting

Research Project (SEM I)

  • This research addresses the underexplored area of binders in alkaline water electrolysis, where focus traditionally lies on optimizing cell configuration, substrates, and catalysts. Currently, there is no standard binder for alkaline water splitting. As part of the Sasol PhD initiative, the project explores various polymers as sustainable, cost-effective, and self-adhesive alternative binders. The goal is to evaluate these novel binder systems for their performance in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media, ultimately contributing to the optimization of renewable energy technologies.

Photocatalytic Carbon dioxide Reduction to Methanol

Research Project (SEM II)

  • Developed copped-doped BiOBr photocatalysts to enhance carbon dioxide reduction to methanol under visible light. improved electron-hole separation through optimized doping and solvothermal treatment, addressing key limitations in BiOBr photocatalysis. Characterized catalyst to provide insights for sustainable carbon dioxide conversion solutions.
