Mzoli Vernon Tempi

Cape Town

Summary

As a Provincial Manager for the Western Cape in the last 3 years, I have:

  • Managed to get the Provincial to support and play a role in boxing.
  • Hosted a workshop for our ring officials to refresh their knowledge.
  • Hosted a workshop for women in boxing to identify and encourage them to know their roles in boxing.
  • Encouraged the inclusion of both Western Cape championships and female bouts in most tournaments.
  • Managed to encourage the promoters to include more local boxers in their tournaments, as compared to the previous years.
  • Encouraged more boxers from the Eden District by visiting them for sparring and assisting them for registration.
  • Encouraged the Mossel Bay Municipality to understand the difference between Boxing SA and SANABO. That resulted in the hosting of a pro tournament in Mossel Bay in July 2023.

As a Provincial Manager, I would like to continue the work by:

  • Ensuring that we have a great number of females in our boxing. At the moment we have 8 female boxers, 2 ring officials, 1 promoter and 1 trainer.
  • We have boxing tournaments in all 5 districts of the Western Cape. I have succeeded in Eden on top of Cape Town Metro. Now we need Karoo, West Coast and Cape Winelands.
  • Recruiting more promoters who can stage more tournaments in all districts.
  • Have more tournaments than we previously had in the last 3 years.
  • In 2020 we had 1 tournament.
  • In 2021 and 2022 we had 3 tournament each year.
  • In 2023 we had 9 tournaments.
  • This was mainly achieved by the understanding of the Promoters, Department and the Provincial Manager.

For the Northern Cape I will:

  • Call the meeting of all licensees and find out their locations.
  • Will engage both the Department of Sport and the municipalities and ensure that we have a working relationship.
  • Encourage the promoters to stage Pro Am tournaments so as to assist the open boxing boxers to gain valuable experience and to populate boxing in the province.
  • Encourage for tournaments to be staged in other towns of the province as well. The focus not to be only in Kimberley

Owner

Amzo Sport Management And Promotion

I started the business because I saw a gap in the Cape Town business market. I also started a promotion at that time that would develop those boxers from grassroots. The company was not only reliant on boxing but doing street games, amateur teams games and conducting some team building exercises.

The company struggled too much on the boxing side, we survived by conducting small amateur club and teams games.
