Summary

A professionally registered Power-Line Design & Construction engineer with fifteen (15) years of experience in both the design office and construction aspect of the discipline. I also have substation construction experience.


My exposure is varied owing to running and taking part in international projects from the perspective of the employer and that of the contractor. My skills include but are not limited to the following; project management, project engineering, OHL line design, structure designs, foundation designs and geotechnical surveys. I have designed 66kV, 132kV, 275kV, 330kV and 400kV lines. my experience extends to preparation and adjudication of tenders.


I have experience in line audits and refurbishment solutions, covering foundations, structures, line hardware components and conductor inspections. I have led teams in emergency restoration exercises, trained and certified workman on emergency preparedness for Eskom Transmission.


I possess good leadership and motivational skills, I am well-spoken and articulate. I am a recognised PLS Pole, PLS Cadd, PLS Tower and Line design instructor, training local and international participants.


I have worked for the biggest South African Power-line design house and biggest contractor, building lines on the African continent.

DESIGN ASPECT 11kv to 400kV


  • Lead Project Designer : Project scoping, project costing, scheduling and execution lead from concept, preliminary, detailed and commissioning design phases.

Junior Line Design Engineer to Line Design Team Leader

Overview

Responsible for line design projects from conceptual to final design stage as well as providing engineering support during construction and in some instances providing full time site supervision.

Responsibilities (Line Profiling)

  • Conducting geotechnical surveys
  • Compilation of Preliminary and final design reports
  • Presentation of design solutions to the client
  • Preparation of tender documents
  • Interaction with client during the design and construction phases
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the lines directory on the LAN

Responsibilities (Structure Development PLS Pole and Tower)

  • Client interaction to obtain clarity on the submitted User requirement specification (URS)
  • Compilation of load cases using in-house software based on the relevant codes and standards
  • Refining of concepts with regards to tower top geometry
  • Modelling of structures in PLS software
  • Generating outline drawings using Auto Cadd
  • Compiling tower reference manuals and data sheets
  • Analyze existing structures and report on possible failure causes
  • Propose remedial actions to ensure safe use of the structure

  • Successfully supervised a 132kV 86km double circuit line with a 13km twin bundle portion. In charge of construction from tower setting out, foundation construction, erection, stringing and installation of conductor hardware. Nine months on site without a fatality or any serious injuries recorded. (TPV = R600m)
  • Supervised the construction of 5 132kV substations along the line route from platform to commissioning.
  • Design Lead for the first 400/132kV multi circuit monopole line for the Western Cape region
  • Successful design of grid connection projects for the Western and Northern Cape region
