Communications Officer

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the SAIIA website, ensuring content is up to date, accurately categorised and optimised for high discoverability.
  • Manage local and international media requests for interviews with SAIIA experts and researchers on topical geopolitical issues, and assisting the Communications team to build the media database.
  • Assisting the Digital Communications Manager in crafting and scheduling content for various digital platforms, including social media channels, the SAIIA website and supporting G20 and T20 (Think Tank 20) SAIIA websites under South Africa's current G20 presidency and as one of the top think tanks appointed by DIRCO (South African Foreign Ministry).
  • Support the Events team in maximising publicity for SAIIA's events, webinars and public engagements.
  • Assist the Digital Communications Manager with reporting on digital performance.
  • Supporting the execution of SAIIA's overall media communication objectives and providing administrative support to the Digital Communications Manager and wider Strategic Dissemination team

Intern with the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO), a not-for-profit civil society organisation which influences the thinking and debates on foreign policy, especially regarding African crises and conflicts through advocacy, dialogue, policy consensus and research and analysis.   • Assisting in sorting and organising organisational digital files, spreadsheets, and reports and supporting weekly webinars and in-person events through increased buy-in of inviting DIRCO officials and members of the diplomatic corps to virtually attend crucial webinars.
  • Writing and compiling extensive transcription documentation after hosting Zoom webinars to inform policy documentation to be published under the organisation later.
  • Participating in in-person and virtual workshops and presentations through taking meeting minutes, giving opening or closing remarks and chairing webinars under Zoom Protocols.
  • Writing and compiling Policy Brief reports on pertinent Southern African and SADC related issues and collaborating with seniors in the communications team in creating social media posts, and website and Twitter write ups for the organisation.

    Member of Chatham House's Common Futures Conversations (CFC). Membership achievements include:

  • Being part of the growing CFC Podcast project, I worked on contributing to and hosting episodes on the 2024 year of elections (speaking on SA elections), the 2024 London Conference, and South Africa's 2025 G20 presidency.
