I am currently the underwriting head of the motor fleet division at SHA Risk Specialists and my experience in this space includes underwriting of HCVs. I have developed a wide range of skills in this field which includes but is not limited to technical underwriting expertise, marketing of products, stakeholder engagements (both internal and external), risk management and financial reporting. My analytical skills ensure that I underwrite each risk according to the Insured's needs, while ensuring that losses are reduced and maintaining a favourable loss ratio. Not only do I bring my knowledge and experience in the field, I also have theoretical knowledge having completed my NQF Level 6 qualification in Short Term Insurance. I am currently embarking on a BCom degree specializing in Risk Management and Compliance which I started in 2022 through Milpark Education. Motor Fleets Underwriter

  • Underwrite and manage my existing fleet portfolio and new business, which may be complex in nature. This includes risk evaluation and assessment, coverage analysis, pricing and wording negotiations.
  • Apply underwriting knowledge and expertise when advising brokers on different options available and appropriate for the fleet e.g., aggregate excess option with a stopper, deposit premium options and conventional options.
  • Ensure the correct Sasria premium is calculated and each vehicle rated according to Sasria regulations. Ensure Sasria declarations are raised timeously at renewal.
  • Arranging reinsurance where necessary (inwards and outwards).
  • Ensuring that turn around times are adhered while maintaining strict underwriting criteria and expertise.
  • Quoting and issuing of passenger liability and clean up and spillage policies.
  • Manage loss ratios to ensure that the book runs at less than 65% loss ratio.
  • Raising of burner premiums once due in order to maintain a desirable loss ratio.

  • My portfolio of brokers comprises of 40 agencies with a total of 3361 policies. Over and above normal underwriting processing duties such as technical advice. Typing of border letters, confirmation letters and Tax reconciliation letters is required.

I also ensure that they follow up on all quotations and cancellations for retention purposes.
