Eye clinic: Evaluated patients for effective triage and treatment. Utilized slit- lamp microscopes to examine for ocular pathology.
Performed and interpreted further imaging modalities, namely; B-scan, A-scan and OCT machine to diagnose and monitor progression of various eye conditions.
Managed post- operative patients and worked with allied health providers for holistic patient management.
Engaged in academic meetings and presentations.
Emergency department: Experienced assessing and managing acute ocular emergencies.
Wards: Performed ward rounds and managed acute and chronic ocular conditions. Also prepared and booked admitted patients for the operating theatre list.
Theatre: Booked own theatre lists and independently performed surgical procedures on these patents.
Outreach: Drove to the following peripheral hospitals weekly: Mmametlhake Hospital (Hammanskraal), KwaMhlanga Community Hospital (Nkangala District) and Middleburg Hospital (Nkangala District). Performed a variety of invasive and non-invasive procedures, namely trans-urethral and supra-pubic catheter insertions, as well as biopsies.
Engagement with tertiary/ quaternary specialty departments for patient referrals for further investigations, such as PSMA PET scan and CT imaging.

Completed Internship Training
Training comprised of experience through multiple rotations.
First year internship involved 3 months in each of the following disciplines: Paediatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
While second year internship consisted of 2 months in each of the following rotations: Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia and Psychiatry. It was the followed by 6 months in Family Medicine, which included time in the emergency department, Gateway Chronic Clinic and wards.
The predominant focus during the 2 years of internship was academia and clinical skills development under adequate supervision. Thus, learning how to respond to medical emergencies to help stabilize and treat patients. Similarly, complete daily ward rounds to evaluate patient well being and identify any cause for concern. Wrote key detailed and professional progress notes for each patient, outlining notable events and examinations findings. As well as, accomplishing all clinical skills requirements as per the Health Professions Counsel South Africa.
During this time I was nominated by my colleagues during both years of training to be the intern group leader. During my time in this role, I organizing the inten call rosters monthly each rotation, liaising in clinical meetings with the Head's of Department and other senior staff members and leading in team projects and academic presentations.
I was also awarded the 'Best Intern Award' during my Internal Medicine rotation.
