• Develop and lead development, implementation and maintenance of environmental management system and related procedures to improve the station's performance
• Develop and ensure implementation of environmnetal strategies to meet ESG targets aligned with the coorporate strategies
• Formulate and implement operational plans to achieve environmental management objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Ensure compliance with all application international ESG standards, GHG emissions reportings, South African environmental legislation and UN SDGs
• Influence proposed environmental related legislation and standards including licensing and perming process
• Initiate the implementation of best practice for environmental management and track implementation
• Manage, delegate and influence engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, Investors/funders, regarding environmental management performance
• Monitor and manage strategic partnerships such as Endangered Wildlife, UN Global Compact
• Management and administration of a team of environmental officers and senior advisors
• Analyze environmental data and translate to environmental plans, objectives and KPIs for implementation
• Reporting on Emissions performance, water performance, land and biodiversity usage, ESG performance to internal and external stakeholders
• Evaluate ESG practices, and SDGs and recommend strategies to ensure continual improvement
• Provide assurance to the organization regarding overall environmental compliance
• Ensure community engagements on environmental issues
• Oversee development of air quality offset projects in the community
• Research best practices for circular economy and implementation on site

• Water Management
  - Track and monitor station's compliance to Water Use licence and related legislation
  - Coordinate water meetings and give assurance on status of compliance to MANCOM and GM
  - Report and investigate water related incidents and ensure submission to the authorities
  - Provide advisory role to Engineering on water related projects
  - Review groundwater monitoring reports and specialist studies and submit to government authorities
  - Facilitate and take lead in external water related audits
  - Prepare presentation and action updates for the General Manager's presentation at Gx Steering Committee
  - Compile weekly water reporting to Head Office
  - Review station KPIs and take lead in external SNG audits for water.
  - Manage the water monitoring contract
  Air Quality
  - Review dust fallout and ambient air quality reports done by consultants
  - Review weekly and monthly emission reports by EOs prior submission
  - Track and report on Air Emission licence compliance status
  - Present on air quality performance at monthly meetings by the GM
  - Reporting of station air quality performance to government authority
  - Notify relevant authorities of any compliance issues on site
  - Conduct air quality awareness at surrounding communities
  - Share station compliance reporting at various meetings with different stakeholder (public, government, NGOs)
  - Provide input into station's feedback on responses to NGOs and the public
  - Facilitate and respond to air quality related complaints
  - Take lead role in air quality audits and reviews
  Waste Management
  - Track, monitor and report on compliance status to waste licence, regulations and legislative requirements
  - Conduct annual waste management licence audits
  - Review and input on waste management procedures
  - Assistance in managing the waste contract
  - Review monthly and annual waste reports by EOs
  - Track, communicate and implement changes in waste legislation
  - Conduct awareness on waste management practices
  - Conduct duty of care audits at external waste facilities to ensure compliance
  Biodiversity
  - Review wetland and biodiversity specialist reports from EIA
  - Facilitate implementation of biodiversity recommendations and offset projects for the station
  - Provide advisory role on biodiversity during project planning phases
  - Application for tree removal permits
  - Facilitate the removal of alien and invasive species through Horticulture contract
  - Evaluate compliance to Alien management plan and report at EMC meetings with government authorities and other key stakeholders
  - Facilitate carrying capacity studies for large game
  EMS: ISO 14001
  - Develop EMS documentation in line with ISO 14001:2015 requirements
  - Facilitate, draft presentations for Management review meeting
  - Conduct audits and self- assessment on EMS conformance
  - Conduct EMS audits on partners and departments
  - Appointment of EMS drivers for Medupi MANCOM members
  - Facilitate and engage management of review of Environmental Policy, Objectives and Targets and other key requirements
  - Track and report on status of implementation for objectives and targets
  - Development of EMS awareness material and conducting awareness to contractors and departments
  - Reviewing environmental aspects as part of EMS
  Incident Management
  - Notification of incidents to the relevant government authorities
  - Review compliance of station SAP register to CARAT principles and environmental incident procedure
  - Closing off environmental incidents on SAP EH&S system
  - Provide advisory role and input in incident investigations
  - Compilation of information and presentation at Eskom Environmental Incident Classification Committee (EEIC)
  Other duties
  - Partnering with Endangered Wildlife Trust and undertaking an assessment on the Medupi biodiversity
  - Consultation of EIA regulations to assess the impacts and required studies for future projects
  - Managing and reviewing work done by Environmental Officers prior submission
  .- Request and co-ordinate regular environmental internal and external audits.
