Jazz pianist Mohau Kekana started piano lessons at the age of 14. At 17 years old he was appointed church organist at a Seventh Day Adventist Boarding School Church, in Butterworth- Eastern Cape.
After matric he enrolled for a Bachelor Of Science Degree at The University Of Fort Hare, but opted to become a full time musician instead, joining a band and studying music for four years at The Tshwane University Of Technology.
Mohau Kekana has performed with renowned South African Jazz musicians amongst others, bassist Ernest Motlhe, alto saxophonist Barney Rachabane and guitarist Moss Mogale.
He has performed in South Africa at The Pretoria State Theatre, Grahamstown Arts Festival and in countries like Israel, India and Mozambique.
In 2001 Mohau was in the final six of the SAMRO National Jazz Piano Competition for overseas Scholarship. Presently Mohau Kekana is resident solo pianist at The Pretoria Southern Sun Hotel, and has been for the past 3 years.
Mohau Kekana is a versatile and experienced jazz pianist and band leader from years of performances for cooperate functions and Theatre music concert performances. His repertoire covers most of the jazz styles i.e. Swing, Latin Jazz, Fusion jazz Rock and the South African jazz song book.
Performance
