  • I provide operational delivery to the Inspection and Cold Chain Services according to legislative mandates (Perishable Products Export Control Act 9 of 1983 for Cold Chain and Agricultural Standards Act, 1990 (ACT No.119 of 1990).
  • A routine delivery of service to the clients in line with the PPECB’s regulatory mandate by performing inspections independently with due diligence and with adherence to the PPECB values on agreed client requirements as in Service Level Agreement (SLA)/Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)/Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
  • Comply to packhouse accreditation requirements such as British Retail Consortium (BRC), Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP), Sustainable Agriculture in South Africa (SIZA) and Global G.A.P.
  • I perform inspections for Citrus, Table grapes and also Container Loading of the Cold Chain Value in line with relevant Acts, SOP’s and technical guidelines such as product inspection procedure and directives from Department of Agriculture.
  • Consistent application of regulatory mandate: Standards and Requirements regarding Control of the Export which entails the compliance to Quality and Food Safety, requirements for approval, traceability, container requirements, packing requirements, marking and labelling as well as compliance to the verification of biological and physical contamination and verification of chemical treatment compliance for prescribe maximum residue levels for consignments by samples for analysis according to the risk based plan to the prescribed laboratories.
  • I also participate in National resource plan in which I volunteer for adhere to the manpower allocation schedule for relief duty (working from 1 region to another away from home region).
  • Perform administrative functions according to procedures and guidelines timeously.
  • Comply with internal business management procedures and policies according to Business Management System.
  • Participate in audits; BMS, internal and external audits and housekeeping for significance of my performance.

  • I was required to work under the mentorship of the Deputy Director as to assist the Department to perform duties of Smallholder Farmer Support Programme.
  • Mechanisation planning: providing mechanisation support where key performance areas included managing fleet of tractors and their implements; repair and maintenance of agricultural machinery; managing contracts for repair and maintenance.
  • Calibration of planters and sprayers.
  • Managing tractor drivers and security guards: Ensuring the compliance to the safety measures according to precautionary measures and specifications (to equip all tractors with compulsory safety devices, guide to safety practices for drivers, training tractor drivers on safe practices).
  • Stakeholder (TWK & AFGRI) engagement coordination: For supply and services of departmental assets (tractors and implements).
  • Also required to assist the Director of Land and Agrarian Reform with administration duties. Keeping record, updating spread sheets, receiving of invoices and submissions.
  • Budget book keeping.
  • Office administration duties-receiving of enquiries from the service providers such as mentorship projects, smallholder farmers and Cooperatives.

  • Handling and receiving of supply chain reports and inventory of Land Reform projects stakeholders.

  • The work was routine and required a consistent and methodical approach to remain within target.
  • The work was also extremely meticulous, so as to not break specimens.
