- Enforcing traffic laws: To monitor speed limits, check for valid driver's licenses, and ensure seatbelt use, and also enforce laws against drunk driving.
- Enforce Road Traffic, Public Passenger and Transport Legislation.
- Examine Drivers’ Licences and Motor Vehicles and monitor compliance at Driver Licence Testing Centres (DLTC) and Vehicle Testing Stations (VTS).
- Provide visible Traffic Control/Policing and promote/ensure crime prevention activities.

- To issue tickets to drivers who disobey traffic laws, such as speeding. Depending on the area's other area's we issue different citations such as Aarto, Section56.
- To issue a Section 44 notice to the driver, owner, or operator of the vehicle, the notice directs the vehicle to not be driven on public roads or only to be driven under certain conditions.
- The notice requires the removal and destruction of the vehicle's license disc or roadworthy certificate disc.
- When is a Section 44 notice issued?
- A vehicle may be unroadworthy due to issues with the brakes, steering, tires, wiring, or structural damage
- A vehicle may also be unroadworthy due to excessive oil leaks, fuel leaks, or modifications to the suspension
- To direct traffic in areas with heavy traffic or where there are few signs or stoplights, and also to control traffic to prevent road crashes and deaths.
- To investigate accidents that occur on the road.
- To patrol roads to ensure they are safe and free of obstructions.
- To enforce road signs and rules of the road.
- To check for outstanding warrants of arrest for drivers as we know that Traffic police may be part of a police agency, a transportation authority, or a highway authority.
- Maintained a visible presence in high-traffic locations during peak travel times to deter potential violations and promote adherence to traffic laws among motorists.
