Key Responsibilities

• Develop preventive and corrective maintenance plans for the Overhead Traction Equipment (3kV DC and 25kV AC), Traction substations (3kV DC and 25kV AC) and 11kV Distribution Systems.
• Conduct testing, inspections, audits and verification of electrical equipment as per the technical standards.
• Compile maintenance records, fault reports and technical reports.
• Conduct root cause analysis to electrical faults to support future maintenance plans.
• Support commissioning activities and return to service activities of the electrical equipment after maintenance.
• Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and electrical maintenance standards.
• Ensure that electrical spares availability is managed and maintained.
• Supervise and monitor the work performed by teams and contractors and ensure compliance to contract management, technical, safety and quality standards.
• Support electrical OPEX and COPEX budget requirements.
• Ensure electrical projects are executed successfully.
• Manage and co-ordinate wayleave projects under the jurisdiction of Ermelo Depot (TRIM).

Key Achievements

• Led a project as a Technical Officer to install additional feeder wire on the Overhead traction system at Rietvleirus in 2018 to increase the rail network capacity and generate revenue.
• Conducted root cause analysis, designed, implemented and managed a COPEX project to replace an underground cable with a distribution line that was aimed at providing sustained supply to the CTC building in 2019 that reduced equipment downtime by at least 40%.
• Mentored Electrical Technicians-in-training from 2019 to date, improving team productivity and skill development.
• Managed and tracked electrical projects execution using Microsoft Project tools in 2024. Ensuring that projects are done within budget.
• Conducted technical audits to Electrical systems at Nelspruit and Vryheid TRIM depots between October-November 2025.
• Currently leading an Infra-red Thermographic scanning of OHTE as a Technical Officer for the COAL BU.
• Currently managing and coordinating a wayleave project for "THE IMPROVEMENT OF NATIONAL ROUTE N11 SECTION 9 FROM HENDRINA POWER STATION (KM 18,5 ) TO N4 INTERCHANGE (KM 41,97)(TOTAL 23,47 KM)" crossing over a railway line at Woestalleen.

I was exposed to practical experience to gain practical competence within the Transnet organisation. During this period, I was working under the guidance of the Electrical Maintenance Manager, Technicians and Electrical Supervisors.

• I was part of maintenance, installation and repair of electrical equipment.
• I performed routine MICA inspections such as IM2000/IMV, Infra-red, etc.
• Supported commissioning and decommissioning activities.
• Executed projects where I was actively involved in risk assessments and daily toolbox talks.

P1 Training

I did my P1 training at Transnet school of rail from Jan 2014-June 2014 where I acquired an understanding of DC and AC Traction systems used in the railway sector.

P2 Training

I did my P2 training from July 2014-December 2014 at Witbank Electrical depot where I worked with the maintenance team to acquire an in-depth knowledge of 3kV DC Traction system. I was exposed to maintenance activities, fault finding, testing and commissioning of electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Actively participated in maintenance and project activities assigned to the maintenance team.
• Followed the safety rules and instructions.
• Worked with the maintenance team to ensure adherence to technical specifications when executing projects.
