- She ended up hurting her back and I had to teach the class for the last few weeks of school
- When we returned to school, I was placed in grade 2 for a few months as an assistant
- I helped with reading groups, walked around the classroom, and explained to any kids that were struggling and taught the Art lessons
- I was then placed in grade 3 to do remedial English and Maths with the weak learners, either one on one or with three children at a time
- These lessons were outside the classroom, and was done slow, with fun activities and ended with a drawing of any picture that came to mind
- I also helped with reading groups, marking books, assisting children with anything in class and teaching 1 hour whether it was Maths, English or Life Skills to give the teachers a free
- I coached Netball and Hockey for grade 3 learners and attended matches on Saturdays
- We also had mini sport on Saturdays for grade R’s, grade 1’s and grade 2’s, and basically teaching then coordination and ball skills, with some fun obstacle course
- I was also part of the aftercare group for JP and SP
- Whenever a teacher would be absent or in quarantine, I would be asked to be in their class and teach their subjects until they returned
- This just shows being able to adapt in any situation.
