General Responsibilities

Inspect Cargo Before Loading and After Discharge

• Ensure cargo is correctly identified, packed, stowed, and secured according to regulations.
• Check for any damage, contamination, or loss during transit

Monitor Loading/Unloading Operations

• Supervise the transfer of cargo to ensure correct handling procedures and avoid damage.

Quantity and Quality Control

• Measure and verify the quantity (weight, volume, count) of goods loaded or discharged.
• Take samples and test for quality, especially for bulk commodities (e.g., grains, oil, chemicals)

Issue Survey and Condition Reports

• Provide official documentation for use by cargo owners, insurers, and port authorities.

Damage and Loss Assessment

• Investigate causes of cargo damage or shortfall and recommend remedial actions.

Cargo Compatibility and Hazardous Materials Checks

• Ensure compliance with IMDG Code for dangerous goods and proper segregation/storage.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of maritime laws, codes, and industry standards.
• Liaise with shipowners, port authorities, P&I clubs, insurers, cargo owners, and logistics companies.
• Operate independently or under a classification society, consultancy, or insurance company.

• Greeting and serving customers
• Advising and assisting customers in locating desired shop items
• Restocking depleted or low shop items and ensuring that the sales floor is organised according to established guidelines
• Performing regular price checks to identify and correct price discrepancies
• Participating in periodical stocktake of all good
• Building relationships with suppliers
