ETHICAL LEADERSHIP
MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
• Taking full accountability of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainability budget of Three Hundred and Sixty Million Rand’s (R360 Million)
• Reviewing HSE policies with Top Management and bring to the attention of leadership changes requiring incorporation into policies and seeking approval of revised policies.
• Facilitating management review to determine the adequacy of HSE management systems.
• Facilitating the development of organizational HSE risks and setting objectives and targets relating to prevention, reduction or elimination.
• Developing operational plans that provide adequate leverage to the broader Strategic Group and organizational intent in terms of maintaining compliance with HSE legislative prescripts.
• Keeping abreast of best practice and trends with regards to the management of HSE in the developmental space to enable benchmarking or alignment of approaches in program development and implementation plans.
• Identifying HSE Training needs and coordinating the roll-out of training programs.
• Legal Obligations, Management of HSE (Safety Management Programs),Project/Site Audits, Meetings, Accident/Incident Investigations, Manage Health Risk of Employees, Safety training, and ensuring Physical Safety in the workplace.
RESOURCE ORGANISATION AND CONTROL
• Overseeing the outputs/ results of a team of external professionals/ specialist marketing resources.
• Identifying, negotiating and concluding service level agreements with marketing consulting agents and other related service providers.
• Controlling and overseeing the execution of responsibilities by the Heath, Safety, Environmental Officer and implementing human resources policies and procedure to manage performance, training and discipline.
QHSE PROGRAMME
• Full responsibility for Company internal auditing preparations for annual H&S audits and quality assurance auditing.
• Liaison with Human Resource Head for initiating and coordinating training plan and updating information for personal, and audit requirements.
• To assist in retaining all current quality accreditations and work towards the attainment of new quality accreditations.
HEALTH PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT
• Participating with the Human Resources Department in the implementation of the Development’s Health and Wellness Day program.
• Initiating the key engagements with eThekwini Municipality Health Department nurses in participating in ongoing community projects in different areas where development projects are active.
• Advocate the drive to protect the promotion of workers health, the protection of the environment and maintaining a safe and sustainable development program.
• Coordinating key requirements relating to the annual World Aids Day Program in conjunction with local communities, Neighborhood HSE Program Groups and various service providers.
• Managing the process of reporting Health statistical data to the local authorities in accordance with the required format and within the prescribed timeframes.
• Provide technical support, coaching and mentoring to drive current OHS and Waste Management practices to ensure company goals, objectives and targets are achieved.
• Provide OHS induction training, including waste management for all new employees and evaluate regular compliance at departmental level.
• Mentoring and coaching of line managers and personnel in relation to OHS and meeting the requirements of zero waste to landfill.
• Manage the health education awareness campaigns with the OHNP and maintain ongoing engagements with company doctor keeping updated latest employee health stats.
SAFETY MANAGEMENT
• Managing the implementation of the of the organizational safety programmers such as NOSA, CMB 253N, OHS Act 85 of 1993, COID Act and Construction Regulations.
• Identify all Potential Risk Management for Management approval.
• Managing 3rd Part Agents in terms of ECO and safety agents on site with regards to Environmental Impact Assessments and the OHS specification reporting guidelines.
• Preparing and implementing safety tender documents for the relevant statutory institutions prior to the award of any new construction contracts.
• Identifying and conducting risk assessments to detect potential hazards and planning precautionary measures for implementation.
• Managing the functioning of safety committee structures and monitoring the execution of responsibilities of safety and fire representatives. Investigating workplace incidents and providing assessment review for accident/ incident reporting and investigation to senior management.
• Participating in safety education and research programs through affiliated bodies and working with the civil and mechanical engineering team on special projects involving plant construction, equipment design and hazardous assessments.
• Reviewing of project designs and commenting on safety specifications and hazards impacting on compliance.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal advice to Management, Line Managers and workers on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) based on appropriate risk controls.
• Recommending and implementing control measures and advising the Board of Directors on the standard of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be issued.
• Full accountability of the companies Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) annual costs of Forty Four Million (R44 million).
• Enable optimum productivity and performance in the sugar manufacturing process through leadership and provision of guidance to the HSE team and the business at large.
• Manage workplace inspections and site walkthrough surveys to evaluate effectiveness of risk controls.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
• Managing the implementation and monitoring of the ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
• Excellent working knowledge of environmental regulations and standards such as ISO 14001, with an emphasis on air, chemical control, hazardous material handling and storage, wastewater management.
• Overseeing the organizational compliance and conformance to environmental and waste management standards.
• Advising line managers and workforce on legal requirements with regards to waste management protocols that include segregation, containerization, storage, transport and waste disposal.
• Manage and compile the primary and site specific waste management plans as per legislation, meeting all the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessments.
• Analyzing environmental data and information and determines and/ or seeks information/ explanations on measures implemented to manage environmental standards.
• Manage the waste minimization projects and recycling initiatives goals in order to meet the zero waste to landfill for construction and rubble materials.
