I have worked for the agricultural trading company "Gintogenix" in South Africa for the past 6 years since August 2019, wherein my duties were to ensure the proper implementation and use of biological controls on invasive species within the Karoo biome in farms within the Eastern Cape of South Africa. I was part of a ten man team that coordinated land surveys and field tests to categorize and quantify the number of invasive species within the allotted farms. I was also in charge of compiling research on pest control methodology that was in compliance with the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act (Act No. 36 of 1947) and the Agricultural Pests Act, 1983 (Act No. 36 of 1983) as well as the The National Health Act (Act No. 61 of 2003). In addition to these responsibilities I also undertook a certification program with the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in South Africa in January 2025, wherein we spent 6 weeks on Draaihoek Farm identifying invasive species, studying their effects on the local biome, collecting that data via photography, mechanical observation and land surveying techniques (the set up and use of transect lines etc.) and then investigating which organic (natural) and chemical pest control methods would be most suitable for the invasive species.
