Teacher's Assistant

St. George's Grammar School
05.2025 - 09.2025

In my fourth year of teaching experience, I took on a larger role. There was a period during Block 1 of my teaching experience when my mentor teacher was absent for a whole week, and the principal of the school entrusted me with the responsibility of both looking after his class and teaching all of his Natural Science and Technology lessons. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and felt very humbled that the principal trusted me enough to leave me in charge of all of my mentor teacher's duties.

The number of lessons I had to teach also increased, as did the reflective work that accompanied the other tasks. For our final year, we also had to create a Social Action Project, and I chose to invite the United Nations representative from UCT to come and join me in co-hosting an assembly on the importance of education in South Africa.

This was my final teaching experience with Varsity College, and I enjoyed every second of it. The knowledge and experience I gain throughout TEIP will stay with me forever, and I will look back on the lessons learned and use them to become the best teacher I can possibly be.
