Liyabona Mzoyi

I have one student (who's doing Grade 9) I've had since last year that I tutor Mathematics and Afrikaans FAL. My role includes:

• Providing homework assistance using specific curriculum and materials.
• Motivating him towards learning and studying to build self-confidence and reduce fear of failure.
• Supporting him with helpful study habits and exam strategies.
• Collaborating with him to complete homework assignments, identify lagging skills and correct weaknesses.

For this academic year, I was fortunate to be appointed as a student assistant to the Operations Manager at the Faculty of Education at Nelson Mandela University. My responsibilities include:

• Car wash and everything related to the upkeep of the faculty fleet
• Attending teaching & learning workshops the faculty hosts
• Venues - furniture count and layout (especially at the start of the term and the end of the term).
• Venue set up for workshops, meetings as required and re-arranging to the original layout.
• Events -assisting where required for events and fulfilling tasks shared at planning meetings.
• Ad hoc - assisting with heavy duty tasks like changing of water bottles or requests from staff.
• Other reasonable duties assigned by the Operations Manager.

• I worked as a transcriptionist, which required me to be a skilled typist who could convert audio files to text.
• Working as a transcriber on Rev meant listening to audio or video files and accurately typing out what is being said, essentially creating a written transcript, while following the company’s style guidelines and choosing projects from a variety of available options based on one's schedule and preference.
• The transcription projects ranged from creating a transcription of recorded interviews and focus groups to lectures and podcasts, business meetings and parliamentary discussions which contained very specific and complex jargon sometimes.
