Process Graduate in Training - Pelletizing and Sintering Plant
Samancor Dikwena Chrome
Brits, North-West
08.2023 - Current
The training commenced in August 2023, during which I was assigned to the pelletizing plant
My primary responsibilities include providing valuable insights and assistance to the production specialists and superintendents in continuous metallurgical improvements, strategizing methods to enhance product quality and yield from the pelletizing operations, and ensuring the completion of projects within budget constraints
I have learned the following systems while doing my graduate program: Integrated Management System (IMS) - (Actions management, Management of Plan
Management of Change, Observation, Near-Misses, Risk Assessments, Incidents Reports), Manufacturing Execution System (MES) - (KPI&CPI reports, Downtimes and Utilizations Efficiencies etc.)
The following is what I have been in my training program so far: Current responsibilities, Raw material consumption approvals, Projects, Cascade Scrubber Study and Optimization, Reduce propane consumption used as fuel at the pelleting and sintering plant by utilizing CO gas from submerged arc furnaces (SAF) which has a zero-rand value, Optimizing Belt filter operation which dewaters the ultrafines from the clarifier and reintroduce them to the system without grinding them, Optimizing Flocculant Dosing System, a critical section responsible for the efficient settlement of scrubbed particulate matter from the sintering plant
Stand in for Specialist (Raw material recipes, Survey adjustment, Pareto analysis, Pellets and Raw material quality PowerBi reports, Shift's Sampling Parameters' reports, develop new SOP and review them, order tracking, Raw material stock tracking, Plant efficiencies etc.)
Vacation Work Student - Pelletizing & Sintering Plant
Samancor Dikwena Chrome
Brits, North-West
09.2021 - 12.2022
During my university recess in September 2021, December 2021, and December 2022 engaged in continuous training for bursars within the Samancor Chrome Group, specifically at the pelletizing and sintering plant
This assignment afforded me a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in the production of pellets, which serve as enriched, readily reducible ore feed for the ferrochrome smelting furnaces
Furthermore, I undertook a project aimed at mass balance and spillage reduction, to identify and quantify spillage in the plant and reuse the spillage to reduce ore cost
