Lena Mdakane aka Malenas ,grew up in Meadowlands Zone 4 Soweto. Im the only child of my mother Margaret Sibiya who was married to Aaron Sibiya. I was raised by my mother, father, grandmother, aunts and uncles. I stayed with my grandmother growing up, visiting my mother and dad every now and then.
I was a rape victim from the age of 10 years to age 14 raped by my uncle, a husband to my aunt who is a sister to my mother. At the age of 15 years I had a boyfriend and I fell pregnant at the age of 16 years and had to leave school for that year 1991 to give birth to my beautiful baby girl. Went back to school 1992 and during that year at the age of 17 years I was gang raped by 5 guys which were unknown to me. Again at the age of 21 years I was gang raped by 6 guys also unknown to me. I survived the rapes and continued with my schooling until I finished my Matric.
I worked as a waitress from 1996 and worked my way up through hard work. Year 2000 I started a spaza shop and a small kitchen selling cooked food. 2002 I got married and in 2010 me and my husband we starterd an Electrial Engineering business dealing with AC and DC Electrical Motor., rewinding, refurbishing and repairing rotating machines. 2019 opened a PPE and stationery shop and in 2022 added a laundry. In 2020 recorded my first EP as a gospel artist. An Award winner of Eminent Video Music Awards in 2022 and Ingoma Gospel music Awards 2 times 2023 and 2024.
